Granted I never got far in either of the N64 games, but I didn't think they were *that* bad. Do they get worse, or did you hate it from the absolute get-go?

Just to throw in my two cents, I wouldn't say they got worse at all. In fact, Legacy of Darkness used the four characters as a bit of replay value, and some of the later bosses can be somewhat engaging. Whether or not the game is horrible from the get-go is really dependent on opinion, mine being that they're the kinda games that should be played with your tongue inserted in and around your cheek

For me they got worse in that, they're among those few games for me I should have never ever gone back to and tried playing again. At the time they were new I remember enjoying them, but when I went back to them a few years ago it was a nightmare had badly they had aged. The framerate, controls, camera, everything.

I often wonder if Quest 64 would be a similar case. lol, I have fond memories of it, but probably haven't played it in 10 some years, and I just fear maybe it's "one of those games best left in the past". haha

how's the PS3 Castlevania then? I assume pretty bad, but never investigated.

You mean God of War: Lords of Shadows?

It's not bad. But not Castlevania.

I've seen a lot of praise for it but I doubt it will give you any sort of Castlevania fix. If you want to play God of War with "Castlevania" printed on the disc then you'll probably like it.

Ack and I were already talking about it. Briefly though.

I remember playing through CV64 for the first time. I was playing it on easy. I'm some where around half way through it, then right in the middle of a stage, I go up an elevator and the game shuts off with the message "If you wanna play further, play on a harder difficulty." So it's like, yeah, you're halfway through the game and now you gotta play FROM THE BEGINNING again if you wanna finish it. Fuck is that? They could have at least warned you if that's what they wanted to do. Long story short, I did actually finish the game. I honestly don't remember it good enough to have an opinion on it at this point. I know what it's like, but I'm not sure how I would feel about it if I played through it now.

Heh, I actually sat down yesterday with Castlevania 64, just to see why it was I disliked it again. The combat didn't bother me, but then I got to the platforming section. In particular I got to that puzzle where you flip the switch and the bridge sections drop to the water below (second switch, I think). I have never been able to figure out what I was supposed to do at this point, so once again I ended up falling in the water, causing an instant game over, resulting in my having to start over from the beginning again...at which point I muttered "Screw this" and switched to Jet Force Gemini.
