What fighter are you currently playing?
Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
Not playing it yet, but in about 18 minutes i'm diving into Rave Master GCN. Wish me well, Godspeed, Y Tu Mama Tambien and all that.

All games have their good and bad matchups. Hell, look at Super Turbo and Sagat - more than half the roster didn't stand a chance against him, and that game has been played for decades.
All of the characters have their uses - I've still not found a character that is either hugely overpowered or at a disadvantage against the rest of the cast. This isn't like MvC2, where only 10 characters were actually relevant while the rest of the roster was just there "for fun".
At least for me, MvC3 is the only fighter this generation that I've stuck with and played for at least a month. All other fighters I've played as of this cycle have been hugely disappointing for me.

*cough* Sentinel *cough*

Seriously, though - you have to admit he was pretty cheap. They just released a patch apparently that dumbs down his health significantly. When they release a patch to curb a character's potential exploits, you know they're just a teeny-bit too spammable. My local game shop is doing a MvC3 tourney this weekend and has expressly banned Sentinel from being a playable character in the tourney.

There is no need to ban a character, he definitely is beatable like any of the other ones.

I'm afraid I can't admit that Sentinel was 'pretty cheap'. The patch was a knee-jerk reaction from too many scrubs who didn't know how to counter him - and, THIS IS THE IMPORTANT THING, didn't even bother to learn HOW to beat him.
Sentinel was nothing. Absolutely nothing. Time and time again, I've seem him getting bodied in tournaments. His ONLY positives are that he soaks up damage (gone now) and that he has Drones. All the patch did was take him from Upper Tier (Yes, I'd say he wasn't even Top Tier - just Upper) to Mid Tier. He's just an average character now, no better than Ryu or Captain America. (Hell, maybe worse.)
Banning Sentinel is depressing. That'd be like banning Jin Kisaragi in BlazBlue. Annoying? Yes. Unbeatable? FAR FROM IT.
Akuma from Super Turbo? That's someone who should be banned. Banning Sentinel is nothing more than the bleats of a bunch of whinny losers who would rather cry than actually learn how to WIN. EVERYTHING about Sentinel can be EASILY countered.
You wanna know how to beat a Sentinel? Easy - take to the skies when he starts spamming mouth lazers (or run right up to him if your character is small enough), and bait his launcher so that he whiffs and takes a super. His hitbox was huge, you could sneeze and it would hit him. High-Low Mix-Ups + Sentinel = Scrap Yard. And keep in mind, this is coming from a long-time Sentinel hater.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Phoenix and Wesker give me the most trouble in this game. Of all the threats in this game, I'd say Sentinel just barely makes it on to the top 10.
And even as much as I may fear Phoenix and Wesker, I wouldn't call for them to be banned. That's just bad form. Only if the majority of the cast can not defend against a character should a character be banned - and I'd challenge you to find me ONE character who can't counter Sentinel's moves.
I need a drink.

Thank you for speaking my mind, I think Phoenix is really the one to be concerned over. Kill that chick quickly and dont let her be last with Lvl5. She can turn the match in an instant. I love to use snap-backs to lure her in for a quick kill.

Absolutely agree. I hate the "it's cheap if I can't beat it IMMEDIATELY" mentality. I know I had those thoughts when I first played fighters, but I learned quick. Just today I was playing Tekken 3 with my friends. They were pretty good and luckily none of them think this way, but one of my friends remarked a "really good" Tekken player he knew said Eddy Gordo is always banned when he plays with others. I explained how only a few characters in video game history are considered cheap enough to be banned and this guy should probably learn how to play or gtfo. Can't wait to fight him and show him my Paul/Heihachi/Bryan.
I would like to see these whiners play in an arcade. They would get their ass laughed at and walk out humiliated if they proposed banning a character. Whatever, I guess there will always be complainers in the world.

Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
I went ahead and made a j360 account, as I am still considering whether or not to use my DLC for MMP/PS
However, I did end up snagging a demo of a fighter called Phantom Breaker by 5pb.
The nice thing is, they give you 4 characters to try out the demo with. The bad thing, there are only 10 characters. I couldn't ever see buying the game when I got half the characters for free.
Its no GG, but the game plays pretty well, very combo heavy from what I can tell (I am teh fighting game noob, but I am trying to get my boots wet with some different-styled fighters)
Anyone else played this?

Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
Saturday night I spent some serious time with Capcom Fighting Evolution and came to the conclusion that it's really not as bad as the critics said. But it's far from perfect. I think the absolute WORST aspect of the game is how "almost" it is. Like, they ALMOST got so many things right. But they didn't. And that's frustrating. First off: the roster. How can you have Darkstalkers represented without Morrigan? I'm certain I'm not the only fan she's got. Same can be said about Blanka's absence from the SF2 side of things. Or are you telling me that there are more Zangief players that Vega? Because of this my team was Chun-Li (who I'm awesome with) and Ryu (who I'm meh with, but at least I know some of his moves which I can't say about almost every other character available in the game). Really, a game that's basicaly Capcom Vs Capcom should have a gigantic roster. But it doesn't. Aside from that, the fighting was fine enough, although the final boss seemed ridiculously hard compared to every single match preceding him. Too bad Capcom. You (kind of) tried.
Sunday night I rocked DOA: Hardcore. I found it surprisingly awesome, and plan on playing some more. I'm not a huge fan of 3D fighting, but when done right, it's done right. And this one is pretty done right. I've yet to really decide who my fighter should be. And I haven't really learned any special moves or anything. But I feel like it controls well and looks good.

@noiseredux
Yeah, I might have understood the small roster if Capcom had rebuilt each character from the ground up.
But they didn't. They just copy-pasted most of them from previous games with the lone exception of Ingrid. Limiting it to 4 characters per franchise was idiotic, especially considering not all of the characters aligned with each franchise originated from that franchise. We've got Ryu in SF2 (Could have easily made an SF1 team - Ken, Sagat, Gen, Adon, Birdie, Eagle as well as Ryu all originated there), Chun Li in the SF3 team (Where's Elena? Dudley? Ibuki? Oro?), Guy in SFA team (again, could have made a Final Fight team, with Rolento, Sodom, Cody, Hugo, and maybe some others I'm forgetting), and I really think they should have had a Classic team (Captain Commando, Strider, Jin Saotome, Mega Man, Tron Bonne, Jill Valentine) as well as the originals from MvC2 (Son Son and Ruby Heart are too cool to stay in just one game).
And besides, four per franchise is lame. Only four Darkstalkers (five if you count Pyron) is not giving you nearly enough of its flavor. (Raptor, Talbain, Donovan, B.B.Hood, Q-Bee, Hsien-Ko - and obviously, Morrigan. I can respect not putting Morrigan in on account of being too similar to Ryu and Demitri if they didn't have space to spare. But seriously.) How they could have the Red Earth characters and not have Tabasa, easily the most popular of the Red Earth characters, is beyond me. (Also really wanted Tao, as she was my personal favorite and would most easily fit in with the Street Fighter characters.) If they had more than four, they could have brought all the supposed-to-be-playable Red Earth characters in, and had some playable bosses from Red Earth on top of that.
Biggest disappointment was that each character was stuck in the respective 'Groove' system. Certainly I'm not the only one that wants to see a SF character in the Vampire Savior groove, with all the chain combos and Dark Forces and stuff. Maybe others would want to see a Darkstalker leveling up, collecting items and learning moves a la Red Earth. Would have been nice to have the option, but I guess making unique Dark Forces, skill trees, target combos, etc. for every character would have been too much work for Capcom.
