Whoa, I never heard about Halo STD.
Well charging full price for an expansion could only considered as such

What an asshole. I wish that his company doesn't do well. Well their second game didn't do well anyway :D.

BTW I'm totally against project 10 dollar when it is for something important like online play. I didn't care when it was for DLC, even though I still found it stupid, but taking out something that is a core part of the game, if the costumer has bought it used, is just being a major prick. I wish companies that do this kind of shit lose lots and lots of sales.

Of course, as soon as I read that I also see that Sony is coming out and saying 'let people own what they've already purchased? Poppycock!'

I don't always agree with Destructoid's Jim Sterling but he's got a great point: Developers are in denial about the boon that used games bring to the industry.

Here's a thought: Why is it that existing game companies haven't looked into investing in their own chains of game stores? Market realities aside, in a perfectly competitive world it's not like there is an actual law or rule making Gamestop the semi-monopoly it is. It's just no one else has bothered to compete/compete competently.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

So, renting games is a thing of the past then.

If you want to go online. Otherwise, no until we go to complete Download Distribution model or some other form of DRM exists.

It does defeat the purpose of renting if you can't enjoy the full game for a while.

Good luck outlawing all sales of used goods. It may be a little difficult to shut down ebay, craigslist, auto trader, garage sales, flea markets, etc but good luck to you, Mr. Asshole THQ.

I kind of knew they were idiots/suck ups to the industry(call it what you will) but the responses you guys will give to this will be comedy gold.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/2010/8/25/

It is this quote that I loved

If I am purchasing games in order to reward their creators, and to ensure that more of these ingenious contraptions are produced, I honestly can't figure out how buying a used game was any better than piracy.

Um

1) Money in a used game, is still money going into the industry. Just that it's to the retail part of it.

2) One is actually illegal and punishable by the law you idiot.

I'm sorry. I can really understand developers and publishers trying to find ways to make money from used games sales. I find all methods they have tried up to this point to be stupid but this is not what I want to talk about.

What I don't get is why are idiots like these guys defending them?

You know I have been reluctant to mention it up until now because I know someone is going to come to defense of it and claim that it somehow makes sense but I watched a show a while back about the best jobs on the planet and two of the companies featured were game developers.

These guys had an arcade in the break room, a reflection pod or some other stupid shit to just take a break whenever they wanted, gourmet lunches, hell I can't remember but trust me there was a plethora of other pampered shit for these whiny assholes.

I cannot believe that these guys work in such an environment and still find a way to complain that they are only pulling in high 5 or low 6 figures. Meanwhile the guy scraping the toilets in the same building who isn't allowed to touch any of the cool stuff probably barely scrapes by above minimum wage. I don't really care what anyone says these devs/publishers are spoiled whiny bitches and I hate them more and more every time they open their mouth.

Don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with anyone making something of their lives and getting a good job or earning a good living. I have a problem with the people in that situation who will always find something to complain about. Give these guys dumpster duty for a couple months and pay them $7-8 an hour and see how much bitching is done when they return to the cush life.

Not every game dev is in this type of atmosphere I realize but doesn't it seem like the ones who bitch and moan the most are the ones who are already doing really well. Meanwhile the independent devs who really do work for crap are doing things like donating projects to open source or sticking their projects in "pay whatever you want" type sales. The world is really upside down and the assholes keep climbing the whole time they complain about the hard knock life.

You're missing his point.

He isn't saying that buying used games is the same as piracy. He's saying that buying a used game doesn't do any more to benefit the people who make the game than just pirating the game. There's nothing "idiotic" about that statement.

Supporting the "retail part of the industry" doesn't do a whole lot to support the people who make the games.
