Hackers didn't need to actively work and publish work on hacking the PS3 OS while it was still Sony's primary console. The whole point behind removing this is to deter piracy. The fact that some innocent customers get caught in the crossfire doesn't matter to them. The Sony board of directors aren't all in a room cackling that now all the Linux people are getting the shaft. As has been mentioned, they are a big company and the bottom line is what really matters.

Let me clarify my whole position here. I'm not attacking Niode for being pissed they're removing the Other OS. It's a feature he uses extensively and was a factor in his purchase. What annoys me is is call to arms for all users to be just as pissed as him, and his slippery slope arguments about "what feature might be next?" Or the notion that because a company wants to protect their profits this somehow makes them bad people. Remember, Sony is a publically traded company; they have an obligation to their shareholders to make a profit. You keep saying they should "do the right thing" and keep Other OS as an option. But one could just as easily make the argument that "the right thing" is for them to do whatever it takes to keep the platform unpiratable, to ensure software sales stay high. You can't please everyone.
="Inazuma"]Some people are selfish and don't give a fuck about other people, morals or doing the right thing. Sony could keep pulling features such as PS2 BC and BD movie support and if that doesn't affect them personally, they couldn't care less.
Oh, I'll be the first to admit that I'm a totally selfish motherfucker. I am against any government program that involves me having to pay more taxes without any benefit to myself.
Like I've been saying all along, it doesn't matter if 1 person uses it or 10million people use it. It's the principle that Sony can remove features that you have paid for. It's a bait and switch and should be illegal.
"On principle" is an argument that I very rarely even give the time of day; it strikes me as having too much time on your hands.
