So it looks like the one I picked up (small investment) has a tilt convergence issue. I've already adjusted the tilt to +5 and it's not enough to correct all the way. Disappointing.

Outside of becoming a TV repair technician for 8 year old TVs, I'm not sure what else can be done. Thoughts or experiences?

There are internal adjustments, a risk of high voltage even when the TV is unplugged. Either the potentiometers on the PCB or the sensitive rings at the electron gun. I would not touch the rings, dangerous and may really throw the image way off. Try different types of inputs of Composite, SVideo, Component and HDMI, a different signal may give a better aligned pic.

Thanks - i'll try out the S-Video and component options and see if anything is different. I've tested both yellow composite outs and it's been the same so far.

I have to say, even slightly off (maybe 5 cm tops at +5), it looks so much damn better than a truncated 4:3 screen on a LCD. My wife was less than thrilled that I've been hunting down big ass old TVs but my search will not conclude until I've got one in optimal condition

So I figured out how to get into the service menu but I still can't seem to address this tilt.

Played around with all of these -

HSIZ,HPOS,VSIZ,VPOS,VLIN,SCOR,VBOW,VANG,TRAP,PAMP,UPIN,LPIN

This picture is with the Veritical position skewed to show the angle of the disconnect (better frame of reference with black).

If anyone has a suggestion I'm all ears. Just can't seem to fix this one.

Your electron gun itself seems to be misaligned. In this case It's a hardware issue and not a software issue.

What needs to be done is simply a removal of the back cover and repositioning certain elements on the electron gun or the pots that control it. This can be extremely hazardous though and aside from a TV shop or an experienced tech/TV guru attempt it only with the utmost of caution given the high voltage which CRT sets contain.

The alignment rings on the back of the tube are touchy, a little bit of movement can really kill the image. I would not mess with the gun, because of the high voltage hazard and the risk of really screwing up the alignment. The potentiometers too can wipe out the image, go in very small increments, most have stops and do not spin a full 360 degrees.
