Sorry gamestop, not paying $55 for a used copy of Modern Warfare 2 in a destroyed case or a generic case, especially when i got my practically mint used copy for $35 about three months ago.
However, they've got some cheap PS2 rpgs (lots for under $10). Just be diligent and you can find a good deal or two. I'm very split with them, but since they're about my only option locally i just do my best to circumvent the crap.

Re: Gamestop is evil
if gamestop was my only option locally I'd just shop exclusively online.
Re: Gamestop is evil
Counting out any retailer because you don't agree with higher-ups and their decisions is kinda backwards to me, especially for anyone who collects.
I use EVERY venue I can for gaming. Not just GameStop - Pawn Shops, Flea Markets, Blockbuster, Big Lots, Target, K-Mart, Wal-Mart (yes - even that 'hive of scum and villainy' as the kids call it these days), anything I can. Hell, I've even been to Roses to look for video games.
And that's just locally. GameStop is also an online retailer I use because, believe it or not, you CAN find a few good deals online with them. In trying to build my PSP collection, I got Guilty Gear Judgment and Darkstalkers Chronicles for a little over $10, thanks to some coupons I picked up off on CheapAssGamer. I also ordered BlazBlue from them because of the limited edition artbook they had.
Now, granted, GameStop is far from the best when it comes to online (I mean, c'mon - I use Amazon for about 98% of my online transactions), but I still use them. They're just a tool, people. Stop treating corporate entities like actual entities and treat them like what they are - a means to an end.

It's not the higher ups, it's simply that I've very rarely had a positive experience in the store. It's the layout of the shops, the employees, just about everything about it I dislike.

Well, if that were the case, I'd count out EVERY retailer.AppleQueso wrote:It's not the higher ups, it's simply that I've very rarely had a positive experience in the store. It's the layout of the shops, the employees, just about everything about it I dislike.
I've had a few bad experiences with GameStop locations, but that's nothing compared to the ones at places like Wal-Mart, Target, Sears, etc. Trying to get any help is like pulling teeth. No joke - I've seen Wal-Mart employees run away when I tried to ask them questions - or at the very least, they stare at you with a look of absolute fear and reluctance when you are coming at them, like a deer looking at headlights. Target and Sears don't have to do that, considering there's never anybody on duty. Seriously, that electronics area? ALWAYS UNMANNED. F'en ridiculous.
'Bout the only place I have positive experiences with is Best Buy... and like GameStop, it's 50-50. Half a chance that you'll get a helpful guy that knows what he's talking about, and an equally good other chance that you'll get someone who has no business working there and just talks out his ass the whole time. It's just the nature of retail.

same here. I find GBA games at way-below ebay prices at Gamestop all the time.the7k wrote:

Well...it is the higher ups who usually decide store layout. Something like that is rarely decided at a store level unless it's privately owned. Generally in large corporations store layout is decided at the corporate level.AppleQueso wrote:It's not the higher ups, it's simply that I've very rarely had a positive experience in the store. Re: Gamestop is evil
Most Gamestops I went to stopped carrying pc games, so now I only go if I need a bizarre DS or Wii game or if they have a major sale. Most of my game buying is either from a buddies Play N Trade, random finds in Goodwill/Pawnshops/Salvation Army/etc, or the rare game online. Ive finally gotten to that part of my life where I do not care if I play the game when it comes out - for most games.
Gamestop is evil if you work for them though. They "lost" my paperwork three times in the two years I worked for them back in Highschool - good old Software ETC...

Yeah, but you can say the same about any company. It's almost a guarantee that no matter what company it is, you will find some employee or ex-employee that will speak of the cancer that said company is on the world. I don't think that's the company so much as the idiots that are hired to run the stores.fastbilly1 wrote:Gamestop is evil if you work for them though.
