FarCry 2 to my dismay is a jungle hiking simulator, albiet one devoid of wildlife where you play as the most hated man on earth. So solo play is rubbish, but I reckon many people know that already.
At least Sony's Africa was more fun to play.

Aw, that's a shame. I was hoping FarCry 2 was worth checking out, but I hadn't been keeping up with it.Pulsar_t wrote:FarCry 2 to my dismay is a jungle hiking simulator, albiet one devoid of wildlife where you play as the most hated man on earth. Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
This game really divides people. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as it is the first open-world FPS that I felt got it right. Lots of traveling from locale to locale made it seem realistic, as trekking around the African jungles probably would be somewhat tedious. The gunplay (esp. sniping) is tons of fun, and I really liked the story/atmosphere. Yes, the respawning enemies were dumb and the save system sucked - but the AI was good and the game is challenging. It also had a nice diversity of missions and gets better and better (and tougher!) as it goes.Pulsar_t wrote:FarCry 2 to my dismay is a jungle hiking simulator, albiet one devoid of wildlife where you play as the most hated man on earth. It really is worth a look- the PC version nets an 85 at Metacritic. But it is divisive - the user score is 5.5! It is not for everyone, I guess, but I really appreciated its few innovations (huge world, breaking guns, etc.) in a stagnant genre.Ack wrote:Aw, that's a shame. I never played FC1, but from what I hear it is nothing like it.
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
Well, I guess I'll look for it then. I dislike respawning enemies in FPS games, but running around the wilderness in Africa sounds like it would be fun. I felt I was being railroaded in both Far Cry and Crysis, so open exploration would be a lot of fun to me. Heck, I felt a bit railroaded in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
But devs should offer us the option to skip this hiking/driving/swimming tediousness. In GTA DS you could fetch a cab and skip the agonising journey altogether. Tasks themselves are very short-lived but getting to them takes too much time and effort (with the aforementioned spawning being a major PITA), and I found stealth to be useless. I was enthused at first and decided to ignore the negative impressions but I couldn't persevere.

I HATE the controls, lousy camera, and how repetitive it is. But maybe on-rails shooters just aren't my thing?

I'm late to the party, but here's mine:
The Smash Bros. series irks the shit out of me. Since I'm usually a fan of the more popular 1st party Nintendo games, I tried really hard to like these games. Of course, the only fighters I can say that I've enjoyed extensively were Soul Caliber (DC) and Street Fighter II. I guess my opinion is somewhat biased.
And while I like the majority of the Final Fantasy series, FFIV is about as bland as tofu. Probably my least favorite in the series, actually...
