Why not just do a separate high score thread for that game? I don't see the need for two titles. Besides, even with a 1cc, the score thread on shmups forum suggests you can still have a lot of score variance.

Yeah sometimes the games aren't too focused on score. Still really fun to play and talk about them regardless.

adding GEKIRINDAN as "Co-SotM"

Hmm was Gekirindan the runner up? We were voting with a poll for a tie-breaker or something when we were picking the Taito game so I can't go back and check. It looks like a pretty awesome game, I don't see the harm in adding it in if, like you said, a significant amount of people here have it/want to play it.

Maybe next year we can pick 2-3 games per month or something so we don't get bored or end up isolating people by only picking one game.

Also what the heck is your avatar? Think I missed a joke or something, is that you in overalls jacking it?

I am down with a Gekirindan score thread, but I think one game per month here keeps it clean and simple. Just a thought.

Ok, it was just a thought.

Metal Black is feeling a lot like Axelay. A lot of talk the first 3 days and then nothing. Go back and check the scores. There were exactly "0" scores posted between 2/4 and 2/26. 22 days w/no one playing means we should be mixing it up.

Even Dimahoo, a game with a lot of interest and a lot of scoring. There were "0" POSTS, let alone any scores, from 5/18-5/30.

It seems like each month we get excited and talk strategy and by first weekend close the thread dies until the start of the next month. Figured it is our thread, we can alter the rules as we see fit, maybe add a second game in the middle of the month or something.

This isn't a knock on anyone, it just feels more like "Shmup of the first 5 days of the Month" and not "SotM".

@bruno, yeah, we were goofing on someone last week, not overalls, my wife's grateful dead shirt and some long underwear (she's about 90lbs less than me, so...), holding a copy of some Saturn games. PM if you want me to find the thread, it was locked, but its there somewhere...

"Shmup of the first 5 days of the Month"

It's only been 2 days. Give it some time dude. I definitely plan on putting time into this one myself, like I said if doing one thing a month ends up being boring maybe we should switch it up next year and have multiple games. Will be more upkeep on the OP but probably worth it. Best idea would probably be to just wait for more input yeah?

I have to be honest here... I hate Metal Black. This is a perfect example of developers thinking shmups are just a spaceship shooting stuff. It's so boring and ugly and unimaginative. I don't even think I'm gonna stick with it. It's like I can't even make myself like it enough to try.

That said, when it's a game I like, I do like focusing on a single game for a month. But it helps when it's a game that has enough to it so that you want to keep aiming for a higher score. Most of the ones we've chosen have been like that.

so...I just figured out that you can rapidly tap fire to get a pretty efficient rapid fire effect  I figured that the button held down was auto fire by default....it makes a big difference!

I just got a score somewhere around 130K or so, and I think 200K is probably pretty attainable.
