Bwahaha!!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, I really am a huge fan of the Strikers series, if only because the bullet patterns help me to play other shmups better. III is pushing me to do better, as is STGT '12 so farnoiseredux wrote:

Amen! Psikyo always kicking my ass. Cave always boosts my ego, but then I move to a Psikyo game and I am ashamed of posting my scores.noiseredux wrote:

This game is totally kicking my ass. Lots more projectiles in the air than Strikers 1945 Plus, which is the Psikyo game I know the best.

Stage 5 boss is a beast so far - I have no illusions of a 1-loop clear. I'd be content with getting to 1-6 at this point.

I had a dream last night I scored 3,000,000 in Strikers 1999. I couldn't snag a screenshot though.

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
the thing is I'm not new to Psykio or anything. I love the Gunbird games even if they are terribly hard. I loved Dragon Blaze for SOTM. Hell, I even think 1945 II is a bit easier to handle than this. 1999 is just embarrassing me. I'm putting serious time into it and it seems the more I try (whether I'm trying to SCORE or to SURVIVE) I just watch my scores go down and my lives diminish faster. The rank on this game is just mean. Like fvgazi said, part of the problem could be that I've spent soooo much time playing Cave games over the past couple months now... actually Strikers 1999 would be awesome if there were bullet-canceling haha.

The hitbox seems a bit inconsistent, there are some bullets that seem to graze a left or right wing and it kills me and then others seem to cut through the top 1/3 of my ship and I survive. It doesn't have a feel of "safe points" like most shooties.
I don't dislike the game. My only real complaint is the one dominant ship. I like to have choice of balanced, speed, power, etc - with this game, your sorta resigned to the same ship each time and can't really adjust to your strengths. I actually think the game would be funner w/o the X-36, at least there would be some added strategy and playing to strengths.

I've been playing I and II along with III and even though I'm doing "o.k." with III, if they chose I or II it would be a different story altogether. The P-51 on I does cancel bullets every few seconds or sonoiseredux wrote:the thing is I'm not new to Psykio or anything. I love the Gunbird games even if they are terribly hard. Yeah, and that. I feel bad using (arguably) the super fast super overpowered ship in a game that everyone else is whereas the other ones should be just as good, but I can't even score well with the others. At least in the RF series the Slave would (arguably) be the best, but there are others that can still net a decent run.mjmjr25 wrote:I actually think the game would be funner w/o the X-36, at least there would be some added strategy and playing to strengths.

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
that's a really major problem I'm having and it's causing me to just play really defensively since I don't "trust" my guess at the hitbox. Playing defensively seems detrimental to score in this game though.mjmjr25 wrote:The hitbox seems a bit inconsistent, there are some bullets that seem to graze a left or right wing and it kills me and then others seem to cut through the top 1/3 of my ship and I survive.
