Stage 6 of Metal Storm legitimately hurts my head. Screen wrap plus gravity manipulation is a total mindfuck.

On the plus side, that also means I finally beat Stage 5, though I did have to burn a shot of armor against the boss. I'm a bit worried I won't be able to make it through the boss rush, since I can't always make it through bosses 3 and 4 without taking hits.

If not anything else, the 'Briefcase' setup is one good looking package!

I'm always hearing though that the most common advise is to go for a PC Engine Duo-R/RX. Those are the most reliable.

Something I noticed the other day......

The artwork on the Nobunaga's Ambition (NES) box is different from the artwork that appears on the actual cart. I don't mean it's just resized or cropped; it's a completely different image. Is this a unique case or are there other games that do this? Could be a Koei thing. I don't own many of their games.

A lot of NES games have discordant bx/cart artwork. I can't think of too many off the top of my head, but it would be interesting to make a list.

One of my favorite Japanese strategy games for the NES is Shingen the Ruler:

I suspect the NA release was intended for the rental market, because it has an abbreviated instruction manual on the cart itself.

That's interesting stuff. I own "only" 100 or so NES carts so Nobunaga's Ambition was the first case I had seen.

I had forgotten all about Hot B. I love all the weird and random names of the old Japanese companies. Pony Canyon was another classic.

That would be a lot more useful with the toaster model than the original.

A lot of Japanese record companies got in on the Famicom. Epic/Sony put out a lot of stuff, for example.

Yeah, actually from what I recall the old Ys games were published by Victor!

The "toaster" model is the original. But I get what you mean.
