A bit more on the game since I read a few more posts:

- Available ports were on the Saturn (all regions?) and of course Taito Legends 2 on PS2/Xbox/PC. I will be playing the PC TL2, which gives me an excuse to check out the other great games on there (ELEVATOR ACTION RETURNS!!!!)

- Bonus stages are no problem. Keep the sight on the enemy as long as you can until you see it change color and you hear the beep, then hit the button as fast you can. The final golden ship in the set moves a bit more often and faster than the purple ships do.

- Simplicity is sure nice from last month, ain't it? No crazy score patterns or multipliers this month (and hopefully no last minute 11:55 pm June 30 score submissions )

- The beam when fully charged starts with a screen-filled lightning burst then the beam focuses straight out as it gradually wears down. Remember that the bosses can also capture the Newalone and make a beam of their very own so even if yours is fully powered up take as much of those molecules as you can! You will win the eventual beam-duel if you know when they are about to fire theirs.

This game just rocks so hard, so enjoy!

I'll compare TL 2 US v JP v SAT-J tonight.

As I recall, I used to hit right around 100K on this - heres to hoping for more than that this go round.

I did try to source a Metal Black PCB, but I don't love the game enough to warrant the tag on the few I found.

Yeah, that game must have a niche-in-niche following, couldn't believe how much those boards popped up for. Would rather get 2 nice Toaplan boards anyday.

Was playing Border Down last night in preparation for some Metal Black action!

Those timestamps are not accurate. Ty posted his score in the afternoon and I posted mine around 10pm PST. I was happy with my 2nd place 3.8 million score but Ty's post motivated me to beat him. Sorry 'bout that!

I would like to see where the issues are from the PS2 port, so good on that.

It's sad that this game is so semi-obscure. It's said that it was released the same time as the original Street Fighter II so we all know how that went. Such a shame too, upon firing it up again in TL2 you can see how much of a work of art this game is, and it's nice to play a horizontal shmup again (although this month it's more of a shmright or a shmside )

Anyways, I topped off at around 114K on my first couple of plays on the TL2-PC, and I noticed that ran very well and the game is also stretched to fit my 15" widescreen laptop, it looks *amazing*, the fact that it's not vertical makes it look very nice.

I also downloaded the MAME set to see if it runs identically, and I am happy to report that it does, so those of you like me if you have TL2 for PC, you're playing it just as smoothly as the real thing. On my MAME run, I had a super-great bonus stage (points are broken down as time + enemies X 1000 and a 10K perfect bonus) so I came up with this fantastic first-strike score:

ExedExes - 133,090 - Stage 2 - MAME

I will be returning to TL2 on future play-throughs but this was just to see if the TL2-PC version stacks up with the proper emulation.

Ha ha, its all good, I should have stayed up later last night! Since you two are over 4m, and I know Mike would be interested, should we start a seperate high score thread for Dimahoo? I love having the competition, it pushes me to get better.

In between Metal Black runs of course.

Oh, and congrats for the high score!

Updating the OP now, but I have no clue what's going on with the scores. So if someone wants to update me there and let me know when it's good to go, I'll do the link thing I've been doing.

I'm down for a dedicated Dimahoo thread - I know I haven't maxed on it.

Yeah go for that, I'd be down for that too since I haven't even played it yet... but I still think we should gather the scores here just for reference and to know who the winner was and such.

I was replying to Chaz.

As for scores - updated in OP.

I think there was a SAT-J copy on ebay that is up soon, it was at like $30 last I looked.
