Besides failing miserably at Ikaruga, I've also been playing a lot of Tempest lately. What a classic.

I decided to stick Raiden II in the cab. Consistently getting to level 3 now, but one death there is the end of me.

Now that the gf is asleep (as the arcade is too loud), I'm playing Giga Wing on the dc.

Alright. I'll probably switch it tonight, but won't get a run in until at least tomorrow.

Hey, how do you guys all use sticks? It seems like no matter what type of game I play; I'm infinitely better with a d-pad. IDK, I'm just garbage with an arcade stick.

What sticks have you used?

A square gate is best for shmups (imo) and you def. want a sanwa or seimitsu (models will very by preference) and not a happ (or anything 3rd party, though current gen HORI and MCTZ stuff is decent), or at least nothing w/a bat top and def. nothing that is a mimic stick (a plastic toggle pressing onto a pcb or hidden d-pad).

I've never had anything too great, I suppose. I do have some sticks, but mostly just the regular ones. I have the DC, Saturn, the TvC stick for Wii, and some weird Capcom stick for NES that has an interchangeable plug on it. IDK, I think I just haven't given it a chance, 'cause when I try to use one, I suck; get frustrated, and say "Fuck it", and go back to the pad.

I use that, except hook it up to the 5V on my panel and it works really well.

It's all what you're used to. Some of the best players on the shmups forum use keyboards.
