I do both. I haven't shopped at Gamestop for years but I will always bitch about them. I will bitch about them until they go out of business.
It's important to bitch about Gamestop. It helps educate others. There is a chance that someone will read our complaints and decide to stop shopping there themselves. If you love video games, you would never shop at Gamestop.

so you have some kind of documented proof that it was GameStop -- and not eBay, Amazon, the economy, etc -- that made 2 upstart mom-n-pop stores go out of business?

I admit walking in there, but I've yet to buy anything. However, the retro game store by my house, Game Champ, receives much of my business. Cheap XBOX games ftw. Oh, and to make the discussion lively, for MW3, they had a huge line for midnight release, while Game Stop here didn't offer it until the next morning. The place definitely has the local kids on their side.

I'm glad to promote local stores and express my problems with GS to people in real life when the topic arises, but on a forum like this, bitching about gamestop is just preaching to the choir. There's not a single person on this board I imagine who isn't aware of the stuff that place does.
I forget one of the chain of stores that tried to setup shop here next to a Gamestop, but this was around 2005 or before when this happened, so the economy wasn't bad then (do I need some family history to attest to this too? lol), and Amazon and eBay have been strong for like 10 years easily I'd say. But yeah, this Gamestation store or whatever they were tried to setup a place a block away from Gamestop, and only lasted a few months, yet they still have other locations still up years and years later. I think it's obvious what happened to that specific store. Ever heard of Walmart killing small towns?
Shop at Gamestop all you want, lol. I know myself and a few others here won't condemn you at all for it or anything. I won't go to that extreme, but yeah personally I could careless about them and won't go near their stores anymore.

that's odd.
if (a) noiseredux loves video games and (b) noiseredux shops at GameStop then (c) ...?
I'm confused
If you love video games, why do you do things that harm them? You are like a husband who beats his wife, but claims to love her. If you really loved her, you wouldn't harm her like that.
Gamestop does more harm than good to the video game industry. By supporting them, you are helping to make things worse. Do you love video games or not? Pick one.
Yea, I guess I don't love videogames because I take advantage of the the occasional used promotion at Gamestop. If anything, I've saved many mint PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, etc. games from their destruction while also taking advantage of great prices (B2G2 etc.) In addition, I've managed to beef up my GBA collection by 30-40 games thanks to their big clearance a few months back.
I definitely do not condone many of Gamestop's policies and I almost NEVER buy a new game there especially if it has been gutted. However, I will not pass up good deals at ANY store.
This thread is appropriately titled and there will always be good, bad, and ugly about any retailer.

This is called being selfish and making excuses. Your mouth says one thing, but your wallet says the opposite. >_>
