The Wrestling Thread
Re: The Wrestling Thread
I was left scratching my head after the promo Rock an' Cena made, and quite frankly I felt as if the feud lost steam if anything (at least in my perspective). As far as the Rock is concerned, they've now merged his character with his RL persona, and the end result tonight was a diluted, much less electrifying Rocky than usual. He really did seem like he was on the defensive, despite the trends he established and whatnot.
Cena's main grudge being that the Rock isn't 100% committed to the WWE is increasingly becoming tedious and isn't a good enough backing to this drama. They need to add more to it 'cause there's only so much these two can trash talk each other before everyone realizes there's really not a lot of substance to this rivalry. Cena and Rock will serve its purpose come Wrestlemania (that being selling tickets) but they really need to step it up with the heat.
In other news, I'm really digging the cheap shots and the heat Cody Rhodes is bringing in his stint with the Big Show. Looking forward to the climax of that rivalry.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Rock's argument right now is that Cena isn't tough enough. At least that's what he kept harping on last night. I guess because he hasn't confronted him or done anything about it. This makes sense.
I'm hoping after Rock's promo we can move past the "he's never here" stuff. Lets just get to the general disdain for each other part of the feud.
Cena burned him though with the 'notes on the wrist' line. That was beautiful. That was the first heelish thing he's done. Otherwise Rock had been the heel and bully in the build-up.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
How do you figure that? This whole feud started due to Cena bad mouthing the Rock, which he has continued to do for months. Even in an un-aired show they did overseas, he just started bad mouthing the Rock after a match for no apparent reason. Rock has never been the heel or the bully in this feud. It's always been Cena with the whole, "I'm jealous, so I'm going to keep harping on the he's not here thing" At no point in this feud has Rock ever been portrayed as the heel. In fact, he's been kissing up to the crowd a lot more than Cena has and he did again last night by saying that he fights for the people who are sick of having Cena crammed down their throats, which is true for a significant portion of the fanbaseretrosportsgamer wrote:Rock's argument right now is that Cena isn't tough enough. EDIT: The only way one could say Rock is more heelish than Cena is because his trash talking is better, but that's just cause Rock has more ammo. Cena has nothing to throw at the Rock that has any substance. Cena keeps harping on the same ONE issue, while Rock calls Cena out on so many things.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
That and the Punk/Jericho feud are both being built up better than Rock/Cena. Cena is the real weak link in his feud with the Rock though. If Cena just went COMPLETELY heel, something those pussies in WWE will never have him do, this feud would be MUCH betterRunefaust wrote:

EDIT: I'm surprised no one comments on what the Rock said about Cena going to private school. Thug my ass. Oh and he never tried to enlist, but still keeps doing that stupid salute all the time. Poser

Re: The Wrestling Thread
There really hasn't been anything said that would suggest Cena is jealous of The Rock. Cena isn't hesitant to admit that Rock did great things for the company in the past and that only Rock could electrify a crowd the way he does. If you ask me it's more of a longing, I wish you were here with us, kinda deal which is pretty lame to base this whole debacle on.Gamerforlife wrote:It's always been Cena with the whole, "I'm jealous, so I'm going to keep harping on the he's not here thing" At no point in this feud has Rock ever been portrayed as the heel.
As for Cena not enlisting there's no reason for him to do so. He's doing what he's wanted to do since he was a kid, and that's being a professional wrestler, not a soldier. You don't have to be active duty to have respect for our armed services, and Cena has a lot of respect for all our troops. In fact, what he does for the troops through the WWE (as well as all the superstars) is a much more effective contribution than him enlisting could ever be.

Saluting is something soldiers do. He's not a soldier. Each time he does that salute is a mockeryRunefaust wrote:There really hasn't been anything said that would suggest Cena is jealous of The Rock. As for Cena not being jealous of the Rock, read between the lines. That's all I'm going to say

A lot of guys in the WWE respect the troops. Cena's the only one with the audacity to act like he's one of them. Think about that for a moment

Yeah, I've considered him doing the salute for that reason too. Why remind people of that lame movie every week?Rurouni_Fencer wrote:Cena still thinks he's in The Marine.
Some interesting comments about the Rock/Cena promo from other WWE people(well, former WWE people

I've always said those guys genuinely don't like each other. You ask me, Cena's a real life heel. This feud makes him look like a dick

Re: The Wrestling Thread
But it's got to happen soon, right? I mean WWE creative knows the fans want the heel turn that badly. The Kane feud hinted wildly at the notion of Cena 'embracing the hate' and becoming a heel. Now the Rock is flat out telling Cena to his face that the fans are sick and tired of having his character shoved down their throats every week. It just sounds like it's building up to a big Cena heel turn at Wrestlemania.
