PLATOON
I'd never seen it. It was fantastic. I enjoyed it a lot more than Apocalypse Now. Charlie Sheen isn't really the best choice for voice over/narration, (comes off sounding douchey and sort of Hot Shots-ish, unfortunately) but all in all this is a GREAT movie and I'm bummed I'd never seen it before.
Looks like I know what BluRay I'm buying next.
What was the last movie you've seen?

Young Sheen and Depp were great.indecks wrote:PLATOON
PLATOON is one of very few movies that makes me cry upon every viewing. Hell, the soundtrack itself makes me teary eyed. Man, even thinking about it makes me a bit misty.
One great thing about the movie is that when I watched it with my Father, he finally opened up about a few of his experiences in Vietnam. He'd point out the flaws of the film, but also answered questions on how accurate the depictions were.
I remember asking, "Would people on the same side actually murder one another?". His answer, "Over card games, over drugs, and if someone fell asleep during a shift they basically signed their tombstone". In fact when he was taken to a hospital in Japan the guy next to him had his back blown out from a point blank shot from an M-16 over a game of poker. He explained that the First Calvary was trained to kill, every one was miserable, and there were no laws to follow. Crazy times, and on top of that there was no "support the troops" stuff going on. Quite the opposite in fact.
Sorry. Went off on a tangent there.
Yeah, superb movie.

Yeah, I could tell from the beginning they were going to rush into the story and try to force me to fall in love with the characters in a rushed manner. I feel the same way about the queen. I rather like the crazy plot, but the characters themselves kind of ruin it for me.jinx wrote:Oh god, the vocal tracks made me roll my eyes and turn down the volume on my TV. It's music for Brittany Spears fans. Also, the plot is rather nonsensical and I think the movie could have benefited from an extra thirty minutes just to flesh out its two female leads more. I never felt invested in them. The queen in particular, is just an awful character who doesn't make any sense. A little back story on her might have helped with that as she just comes off as someone who is a bitch for no good reason.Gamerforlife wrote:
Haha! We watched that yesterday too! I was thinking about posting about it, but didn't feel like it. I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't anything special in my opinion. The music was probably one of my biggest gripes.
Seems like a lot of these newer Disney films are for ADHD kids. Tangled was absolutely terrible when it comes to this. My brain could barely keep up with what was goi... SQUIRREL!
EDIT:
It hurts the most is that this was PIXAR film...

The scene where Barnes shoots the Vietnamese mother made me choke and I almost started crying. My wife was at her BFF's place and we were undecided if she wanted me to go pick her up late (this was already 1030pm when the scene happened) or if she was spending the night.Luke wrote:Young Sheen and Depp were great.indecks wrote:PLATOON

Yeah, superb movie.
I drove 40 minutes to go pick her up after the movie ended.

I think that's the one. First they toy with the handicapped young man, bash his brains in, and then kill his Mother.indecks wrote:

It's not the scene that gets to me, it's the realization that things like that occurred on a daily basis during the war. People were brutally murdered and raped, and the consensus at the time was "They got what they deserved". Just a terrible time and a black eye on our military, who was just doing what they were told.

007: Goldfinger
Still awesome to this day! Sean Connery is Bond, all others are pretenders!

When I was a senior in high school I wore a bunch of lame shirts from Gadzooks including a "Got Milk?" t that featured a topless Jenny McCarthy, a "watch more porn" shirt that featured an orgy in the text, a t that showed Tupac's face and read "Caput", and a shirt of Roger Moore surrounded by chicks that had the tagline "ASS".
I kinda wish I still owned the Caput and Roger Moore shirts. I agree Connery "is 007", but Moore, in his time, was much more of a ladies man.
So did you keep thinking of Nolan's Bane when Goldfinger spoke?

I don't remember Bond having an ipod nano.
