I saw King of Thorn on Netflix a while back. I have no idea if it's still there, but it was worth my time for sure.

DO NOT WATCH THE SAKURA WARS TV SHOW. It's AWFUL. The OVA series and movies aren't too bad, but they're best if you have at least a casual familiarity with the games.johnblade wrote:Just want to get some opinion of this anime as someone is selling they anime collection and was interested in this item.
Sakura Wars: Complete Collection Box Set
Gungrave
Samurai Champloo
King of Thorn
Sakura Wars: The Movie + 10 Pencil Boards
Kamichu! Shrine Box
Gungrave I've heard is forgettable. I don't know much about King of Thorn.
I've never seen Kamichu but have heard good things, so it might be worth your time.

Is Sakura Wars tv series that bad. I am new in the series but heard good stuff for the game. Would want to go into it if I could but if it`s bad, then I will avoid it. How about the other anime on the sale list I didn`t add. I just need an idea of them as if they`re good to watch or not.

Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendat
those anime prices seem a bit too high for me.
Double Check and make sure that they are truly worth what hes stating.
There are lots of websites online where you can get cheap original anime clearance for less than $10 bucks each. Sometimes even less.
I mostly buy my anime from RightStuf.com and Secondspin.com with a few here and there from other sites.
I've gotten single dvd anime from those sites and others to complete sets I've started for about $3-6 dollars.
Rightstuf has free shipping over $50 and its a little harder to find anime over on secondspin. In secondspin you have to title it exactly.
Older anime(4 years +) is worth a couple of bucks but I havent bought any newish anime in at least two years.
I dont find the value of thirteen episodes on two discs for $35+
I can wait for the secondary market in a few years and get it for $15 or less.
but yeah, Check and make sure that he isnt overpricing you. Unless its a friend and you want to help him out.
happy hunting.
Edit: now that I see whats there, Its whatever. Prices are somewhat decent. Just make sure that If your gonna pay a higher price make sure its for a thick DVD case not just the thinpacks.

As of now, I just want to see what people say about those anime. Whether I will buy it is something I will think later on as all those anime are show I didn`t see in my time.flojocabron wrote:those anime prices seem a bit too high for me.

Damn Attack on Titan is getting so freaking brutal
. It's probably my favorite show right now but the last episode left me saying WTF. It's not that it was "bad" or anything its just I can't really see where we can go from here, and the enemies are way to OP at this point
.
I wonder how many episodes they are planning for the series because at this point things are just getting crazy.
This show actually has me reading the manga I have to know what happens lol. If anyone is interested int the manga here is a link.

UPDATe:
So I read through the first 9 chapters of the manga and holy shit. This show is going to be amazing. Anyone left with mixed feelings about what the future holds your in for an awesome surprise things only get better from here on out.

The TV series is 100% to be avoided; it doesn't even give you an idea of the game's story. The OVAs and movie can still be fun.johnblade wrote:Is Sakura Wars tv series that bad. NOW I'LL COMMENT ON WHAT I CAN COMMENT ON!
As for the other things on your list:
Armitage III - it's a pretty so-so series from the 90s. I like that kind of thing, but I'd recommend just going for the recently reissued OVA series instead of bothering with the movies.
Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales - this has been on my "to watch" list for a while. It looks interesting and is from a block of shows known for quality. I believe it consists of three unrelated adaptations of classic ghost stories.
Bottle Fairy - I liked this but it's aimed pretty squarely at kindergarten aged children... very short episodes of cute fairies learning about Japanese culture. It's VERY light weight.
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - I've never seen this but since it's a remake, I'd wager you're better off seeking out the original if you're looking for cheesy sci-fi.
Kodocha - the first set is high quality shoujo drama/comedy. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I liked it. The second set not so much (and both sets only make up half the show as it was released in Japan).
Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro is really good. It's not my favorite incarnation of Lupin, but it's generally the most highly regarded movie in the series.
Petite Princess Yucie is a waste of time. It has some great people working on it, it's a loose adaptation of the video game Princess Maker, but it's BLAND. I gave away my copy.
Samurai Champloo - I think this would have been an amazing 13 episode series... as a 26 episode series it feels bloated. But it has a strong following so you may very well love it!
Slayers - I love Slayers. But it's VERY 90s, VERY goofy, and VERY low-budget. I think all of those things add to its charm, but it's tough to recommend it to someone who doesn't know what they're getting into.
Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendat
I've seen both versions, and while I do prefer the original, Tokyo 2040 is very different and is well worth watching on its own merits. Because of having 26 episodes (as opposed to the original's 8 out of the 13 that were planned), some stuff that seemed rushed or not explained well in the original is expanded upon and fleshed out a bit better. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out.Nemoide wrote:Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - I've never seen this but since it's a remake, I'd wager you're better off seeking out the original if you're looking for cheesy sci-fi.

Also I have Armatage myself, it's a decent series.
Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendat
Nice to see someone who likes both. The original OVA is a time machine to the 80's, epic music, amazing visuals and everything, one of my favorite OVA's next to some similar stuff like Iria, etc.Retrodude wrote:I've seen both versions, and while I do prefer the original, Tokyo 2040 is very different and is well worth watching on its own merits. But yeah I still loved 2040 for what it was. Did flesh out the characters a bit more and it was just awesome sci-fi when that stuff was kind of fading in the late 1990's / early 2000's. It's arguably still pretty cyberpunk (visually), way more than say GITS Stand Alone Complex I'd say.
I didn't even mind Crash either, which gets the most slack. The weird 3 episode OVA sequel to the original... but it's been awhile since I've seen it.
Anyone who likes this stuff should check out Goku Midnight Eye and Cyber City Oedo, those are also probably some of the best classic cyberpunk OVA's in my opinion. And Iria, which I think has one of the best budgets ever, everytime I go back to it I can't believe how insanely good it looks. Cel animation at its finest.
