Not gonna lie, I shed many tears during Shadow of the Colossus. And I wasn't even the one playing the game!

I was amazed to realize that had I been the one at the controller, I most likely would have abandoned the quest -- and also that this decision would not have felt like "not completing the game," but rather like an alternative version of the story. My hero would have said, no, this is not worth it. I can't do this. And that's how my tale would have ended. It would have made sense.

I was floored that this game that said so little could make me feel so much.

That said, I obviously can't speak to the controls, so who knows how that would have affected my feelings.

People often blame the controls when a game is kicking their ass.

That's "The Right Honorable the Lord Cunt Yorda" to you, street urchin.

I beat the HD remake of Ico in under two hours for the platinum trophy, so I have no ears for people's complaints about the controls or design of the game. Managing Yorda can be difficult, but honestly not to the point that I ever felt like the game was unfair, or that it detracted from the gameplay.

I have no idea what there is to complain at all about with SotC's controls, aside from controlling Agro, though. That's just loopy.

I see many, if not most, people agree with me then. Good atmosphere but extremely overrated. I didn't like the controls but I don't hate it either. It could have been better. The thing that I am most disappointed with is the gameplay. I really thought there was more to this game, but turns out its just pushing blocks and ascending platforms with the frustrating companion.

I found an as-is Saturn 3D Controller for a decent price, so I took it and my 3D Controller with the broken shoulder button and Frankensteined 'em into one working but bruised controller. I'm just happy that I finally got around to doing it.

I actually appreciate much about the game and don't hate it...but the controls are horrid. Maybe they improved them in the remaster?

I adore SOTC and its controls are fine, matching the gameplay and narrative.

You have a distorted sense of reality.

RCBH928, seven people responded to your opinions, only two actually agreed with you. That's not many, or even close to most. And, I'm not even sure what to think about this collective opinion junk. You can't stand on your own opinions and thoughts?

It sounds like you need to just figure out what games you like and target playing those, instead of listening to what other people like.

I very rarely hear you talk about things you enjoy, usually it's criticisms that sound shaky at best. To be honest, it feels like you only target negative conversations. It's always about what you didn't like. What DO you like?

I didn't even get far enough for that to be the case. I messed around with the first colossus, wondered what was what, and after multiple tries without getting it I kinda gave up. To me if you're not muscle memory-ing a single button then there's something wrong.

That being said, I am having trouble lately with PS2 games whose control schemes aren't typical. I have an Xbone, a 360, and I rarely play my PS3, so even though it's an unusual scheme maybe it's just that I have no foundation to start with.

I've been playing games for so long that I think I forget that it's often hard for folks to pick up on some of the more esoteric control schemes. I still have trouble with a few (oh, hi, Jet Force Gemini), but most games that utilize the Dual Shock or 360 controller I have no issues with.

Shadow of the Colossus really did become second nature eventually. And I'm pretty good at dealing with bad cameras. As long as it's not outright broken, I'll make sense of it. ;)

Speaking of SotC, doesn't the remaster smooth out the framerate a lot? That right there would do more for playability than anything else, I think.
