What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Life w/o parole is much less expensive, and there is a much lower chance that the sentence and verdict will be overturned on appeal. (There will also be far fewer appeals.) In my opinion, we have already wasted enough resources on this despicable person; so, I hope that they simply lock him up and throw away the key.
Problem is, even then we don't simply lock them up and throw away the key. He'll still receive hearings and legal services, a mandatory minimum level of health and psych care, as well as the other minimum requirements of penal care. If he continues his religious path, he may also help convert and radicalize other prisoners who will be getting out. Admittedly though, an angry general population might also decide to take him out on there own, especially if he does something stupid.

As for Luke's comment, it's not that I want revenge. It's that I consider his crimes too horrific to be allowed the possibility of returning to a normal life. I don't see the death penalty as a means for punishing someone but instead to ensure they cannot get out and commit further crimes. If prison is there to attempt reforming individuals, the death penalty is for those who cannot be reformed or have done things so horrible that there is no point in trying.

An eye for an eye leaves the entire world blind, but I kind of hope the guy is paralyzed, had to have his wiener amputated, and faces a firing squad that just can't aim well enough to finish the job in a timely manner.

I'm exaggerating as I want his pain to be mental, not physical. Someone should stand over him, 24/7 holding the picture of the eight year old boy he slaughtered. Visits from all the amputated and injured. Hear the cries of the loved ones of those who were injured. He deserves to face a mental penance.
Wouldn't you rather see him treated humanely and rehabilitated? The kid's only 19 and, it seems, was likely brainwashed by his older brother. Endless mental or physical torture will just further foster the hatred he feels now. Life in prison is fine given his crime...but I'd like to think that a display of justice and fairness might prompt in him a life of seeking atonement and of contributing (albeit from behind bars) to the society he seems to so hate right now.

It's ok to take longer than the average to finish a game. It's not an indictment on your gamer skills.

I know that, it is just annoying because I really like the feature and wish there was a way to make adjustments if need be. Oh well.
I think the better question is, if you're on a PC, and playing a game with a quick save feature, why would you leave it on pause?

I saved it and then hit "Esc" while I went to tend to something else for a quick minute. I didn't make it back until 9 hours later.

That's a pretty sizeable distraction.

Smile - Had a great idea on the drive to work today. The computer gaming club I was a member in in college is the oldest university sponsored computer gaming club in the USA, being founded 3 months before MITs. The founder graduated, traveled the world, then came back to work on his masters when I was going through school. He was an awesome guy, traveled the world in his 73 VW Camper, worked as a barmen in Ireland, lived with Tibetan monks for a while, raced said VW camper in Greenland on iced over lakes. He was just a really interesting and easy going guy. Well in 2006 he was stopped at a stop light on his motorcycle, having had to sell the VW camper earlier that year, and a drunk driver hit him so hard a stop light decapitated him.

Stick was the one who introduced me to many boardgames and PC games I would not have tried - Mississippi Queen, Formula De, and Big Red Racing in particular. Big Red Racing was his favorite PC game for a very long time (the other two are boardgames). Back in the mid 90s/early 2000s he hosted the Big Red Racing official website and ran their mailserver. So when Domark was closing their doors, they gave our gaming club the rights to the game.

So enough history that no one really cares to read, my idea was that since Big Red Racing was one of his favorites, and since he loved getting people to play games, and since we own the rights to the game (once we find the paperwork), why not drop it off to GOG to publish as a free title? So I asked the old club presidents, who sent me to older club presidents, who are now digging through their emails to find the paperwork. If we can find it then we will approach GOG to handle the release. It is the best tribute I could think of. It is a game that people want on GOG, that Stick loved to introduce people to, how could it get any better?

Ticked - Trying to convince people you have only met once or twice to dig through a emails from 15 years ago is not as easy as you would think.

And yes, this is another crazy idea on a long list of crazy ideas...

:) Yesterday, went out one last time. Went to Walgreens again to pick up a DVD I saw in their bargain bin (it was a DVD performance of The Dresden Dolls, and it was only $3.99!), then stopped at Target. Found a nice wastebasket on clearance ($4.98 marked down from $9.99), and put it in the bathroom. The caught the LAST bus of the day to the stop in front of Vista Del Lago (which was only 2 stops away). I actually thought the buses ran 24/7.

 Speaking of buses, I decided to hang on the 55 Link for a while, and thought I got lost or transferred to another link (never transferred before so I didn't know that they'd stop before they transfer  ) but it turns out that the 55 Link goes a LOT farther than I thought and got off in/near Celebration, where the 55 and 56 Links overlap. But I rectified my mistake and went to the next stop going west.

:( And after Walgreens and Target, not to mention the first thing I did was get dinner at McDonalds, which was the only thing I ate yesterday that wasn't jalapeno beef jerky (and that was less than 3oz), I'm now down by almost half of what I had before I started. I'm probably now at just under $20. Maybe I will have to sell my copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii.

I'm finding that these "sizeable distractions" occur quite frequently and easily once you have children.

Trade in the kids for cats. They stay cuter longer and aren't nearly as distracting.
