Re: What Are You Drinking?
As a bit of a soda-phile (a filthy habit and I advise you kids to just stick to your beer), I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out the new Mtn. Dew DEWShine when I saw it in the store yesterday.
This is a citrus flavored spin on ... the original citrus flavored Mtn. Dew, with the difference being that this one is sweetened with sugar rather than HFCS (and yet still a different beverage than Throwback Dew). If I were to guess, I would say that they're marketing this as a 'top shelf' Dew based both on the fancy packaging (strictly glass bottles), and higher price tag.

The good: The flavor on this is nice. It has a bit more of an 'authentic' lime taste than garden variety Dew, and yet at the same time is also a bit smoother. This welcome smoothness is mostly thanks to being sweetened with sugar, so that's a nice change of pace. The carbonation level also seems to be slightly diminished as compared to 'standard' Dew (another contributing factor to smoothness), but at the same time the carbonation is also finer with seemingly smaller bubbles. The net result of all of this is a nice pleasant initial mouthfeel.
The bad: The initial mouth feel is quite enjoyable. The syrupy finish that overstays it's welcome is not. My favorite soda blog refers to this effect as the 'syrup curtain,' in which a heavy sugary flavor continues to hang around long after you've finished your sip. The syrup curtain here is highly noticeable, and while the flavor is not unpleasant, it just continues to loiter around ... and loiter some more, until you really wish it would just go bother someone else for a while. In the end this adds up to an incongruence between the initial crispness and the resultant syrupy-ness of the drink. Your mouth just ends up feeling a bit confused by the effect.
Overall it's a nice soda, and worth a try, but I certainly won't be running out to buy a pack.

While I was looking for Brisk Raspberry iced tea this caught my eye. And it's amazing. It's only available at 7-Eleven.

When I was a little girl, I had this doll. She was scented, as was common for food-inspired toys back then.
Well, I am now drinking Gatorade Frost Glacier Freeze for the first time, and it tastes exactly like how that doll smelled.
Had to share.

Re: What Are You Drinking?
I shared a Great America Carolina Clear Malt Beverage with a friend last night.
It was awful. It comes in a mason jar, is 24 proof and, well it just looked interesting so I picked one up. I also paid for it. And then I drank it.
The best way I can describe the taste would be to say that if you've ever left a mountain dew outside for a week, and then decided to drink it, you'd have Carolina Clear.
It was a bit of a funny experience as my friend and I truly wanted to like it, and we did drink all of it, but it was just no good.
