1. Toe Jam & Earl = Cult classic at best. Not a great game either, and this is coming from a fan of roguelike designs.
 I love that game.

There's been numerous people bringing up Twin Snakes. I guess I'm just going to randomly throw it out there that I hate it. The redub is pretty bad, the cast doesn't seem as into as they were during the original. Jennifer Hale drops the British accent for Naomi which makes sense considering she doesn't have the accent outside of MGS1, but yeah. The entire OST is replaced and the new music completely sucks. The cutscenes go full on 1999 bad CGI Matrix with some weird director that was known for that stuff at the time who handled this remake. It has a few good gameplay elements from MGS2 that they added in but that's about the only positive.

I still replay the original all the time. But you'll never see me recommending Twin Snakes. The OST change alone is a total deal breaker.

Why the shit is a 2004 remake of an older game even being considered here? Classics, people!

I owned Twin Snakes for a few years. Never could bring myself to play it. So many questionable changes, and the AI foibles on top of that. I ended up selling it for a hefty sum. The PS1 original is A-OK with me.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Twin Snakes is worth playing for the changes to the Psycho Mantis portion, since it used the engine for Eternal Darkness. But really, I'd just stick with the original.

Ah, I how I look forward to the summers for this.

Every year I play at least four games in my backlog, then add in one new game I've had my eye on. I might get cracking in mid-May, as I could use a pick-me-up.

My core list:

1. Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar (ApplII)
2. Tecmo Bowl (NES)
3. Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (ScummVM)
4. Contra (NES)
5. Super Metroid (SNES)

My alternates (which can be substituted in for the titles above):

6. Lemmings (GEN)
7. X-Men (GEN)
8. LOOM (ScummVM)
9. Ultima III: Exodus (NES)
10. Star Fox (SNES)

I would egg anyone on who is considering any of the following to seriously consider giving them a whirl: Day of the Tentacle, Ecco the Dolphin, Toejam & Earl, The Last Express, Ultima III.

I'm playing Twin Snakes because it's the next MGS game I need to play.

Happy to swap it out for the PS3 title MGS4 if it makes you happy Bone ;)

Key, you have no need for the alternates. Your list of five is solid.

Eh, I liked it pretty much due to that it has first-person aiming like MGS2, effectively making it play similarly to the rest of the Solid games.
