This is the complicated one. Basically, I'll randomly select a game from my backlog using the backloggery's fortune cookie function. Then I'll choose 2 other unbeaten games for that console. I have to beat those 3 games before I can buy another. This means I beat more than I buy, the random game means I play stuff I might not otherwise, choosing the other 2 gives me some degree of freedom, and sticking to once console focuses my playing more than usual.

2. Finish my alphabet marathon
Yeah, still a ways off finishing this. I'm only at game T.

3. Buy a Switch and one other new console
I'm thinking Sega Mega CD or SG1000. Maybe Wonderswan though!

And just because I know it will happen - exceptions to my beat 3 buy 1 rule:

- Gifts don't count (Christmas/birthdays)
1. I haven't been randomly selecting the games yet, but I have been beating 3 games per console before moving on, more or less. I've done 3 3DS games and 3 N64 games already, and I'm working on my 2nd of 3 PS3 games for my next batch.

On the buying side, I've earned 2 game purchases, both of which are already accounted for. Doing well on this so far.

2. But not so hot on this one. I'm at game V, but I made it here before the start of the year. No progress on this one.

3. Switch is ordered at least. Still undecided on another console, but I have spent a lot of money on modding my N64 and ordering a Framemeister, so I think this will be a goal to fulfill at the end of the year rather than the start.

That said I may have only picked up my Sega Genesis (again) 13 mo ago, but I've barely used it at all since summer, Game Gear almost as bad unless I get something to tool with.
Wrote that last November, just as an update it goes well mostly. I did find that Dreamcast before Christmas. I've picked up some games for it which kind of goes against #1, but I've not bought any 'new' games, not one. And on #2, that Dreamcast is getting nice use a few times a week. Too early to say on #3. #4 goes with that comment I left -- as of today the last 10 Genesis games are hitting online for sale, Game Gear is down to 3 carts left too. Also pulled quite a few GB/C/A and DS games to get rid of as well. (25~ total overall.) I'm trying to be serious about this junk this year and let things go.

Yay, I can finally update this...

Exhuminator's 2017 gaming goals:

1. Get off my ass and get the new dork cave setup and fully functional.
(I'm about 65% there, have made real progress in the past three weeks.)

2. Beat Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.
(MISSION ACCOMPLISHED)

3. Beat Demon's Souls.
(Coming soon.)

4. Finish all the DS-based Ace Attorney games.
(Was working on AA3, but it bored me away. Gotta get back to it.)

I am replacing #4 with this instead:

4. Finish The 7th Saga.
(I'm sure Ack/Bone will allow this change.)

5. Beat at least five Vita games.
(I'm only at 1 beat this year so far, woops.)
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I'll allow it, but I say it's the NTSC-U release.

Of course! What do I look like, some kinda Elnard playin' pansy?

I've already got a 45% completed save file. Just need to boot it back up and feel the love.*

*By "love" I mean a stainless steel cactus built outta razor blades shoved up my pooper.

The 7th Saga is king!!!

For yucks, let's look at my post.
Now that I'm long-term unemployed I'm easing up on some of the financial/collecting based goals.

So, 2016 was kinda aimless gameplay-wise for me. This is primarily because I had a daughter born in March. My schedule has smoothed out a bit as of a few months ago (the kids sleep! at the same time!) so I feel like I can get back into the swing of things.

I'd like to play games I own but haven't played before, to put it simply. I plan on diving deep into the 3DO and PC Engine. I'd also like to work my way through my FDS library. Visuals novels have apparently struck a cord with me as well, and some "classics" await.

Of course there are a few things I'd like to purchase. I really want a CD-I (shut up) and the SG-1000 is tempting me as well. Completing a North American SNES RPG set is also theoretically possible, but it's not a pressing matter.
Well I was playing some 3DO but my console started having issues. I do plan to rectify that when I have a chance. I've been really into the PCE lately, in terms of both playing and collecting. I have completed both Exile games this year, both Neutopia games, Xak I・II, and The Legend of Heroes. Not too shabby. Better than I could have anticipated perhaps!

I've only played one FDS game, but I'll hit up some more. I have also played a couple of solid VNs. I'll probably have to purchase a few more before I dive back into that genre.

I don't have a CD-I yet (haha), and I likely won't bother with the SG-1000 as I have a RetroFrek now and that should suffice. Very close to that North American SNES RPG set, just need the Uncharted Waters games.

2. Beat the Witcher trilogy. I've got all three, and I've played through the first one, but I need to play 2 and 3.

3. Get at least a couple of Hyperscan games (along with a controller and power cord)

4. Finish the Fatal Frame series (this is a carry over from 2016 since I got hella slack)

5. Have a zero balance on my Amazon and SECU credit cards at literally any point during the year.
I've made progress on #1. Only missing two games.

2....may not happen with some of the games coming out this year.

3 is such a low priority for me, honestly, that I don't care that much if it happens.

4 still needs some work; gotta finish 3 and 4.

5 is my big struggle, and I'm still working on it. I've made progress, though!

Mark 1 of TV stand is in place. It is serviceable, but not ideal. It will be updated as time goes on and as needs change.

2. Get a RetroUSB AVS + Everdrive. I'm holding off on this until I know more about the Retroblox.
3. Get an OSSC and maybe sell my last PVM. There is a good chance I will be able to purchase an OSSC this week given my spot on the waiting list
4. Get Breath of the Wild, Cuphead, Tekken 7, and MvC Infinite. BotW is soooo good! I think I am going to add Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to this list.
