I've tried holding down the launch button as well, and that doesn't seem to work. It really just seems to happen randomly.

Well I don't know, I was super hyped for this game since that E3 presentation. I watched many interviews with Sean. But I got exactly what I was expecting to get, so I'm not disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there's a few things I really hope get improved about this game (I've mentioned them in this thread) but I didn't have any unreal expectations, I didn't fill in the blanks.

I feel sorry for all the people that have had (or are still having) compatibility problems. Especially those that report not being able to get past the Hello Games splash screen. I'm not saying if that was me that I wouldn't be frustrated, but I wouldn't be angry at Hello Games. I'd be upset that I couldn't play a game that I was eagerly waiting to play. It was super hyped and has a $60 price tag, so people are treating them like any big game company. I'm not sure how fair that is being that they're a 15 person team. This might be the most impressive indie game the world has ever seen. There's been plenty of games released in recent years that were more broken for more people that didn't get this much hatred for it.

I'm not saying don't voice your concerns, but I think all the juvenile hatred on the internet can be damaging. I felt the same way about the Wii U. Maybe it will be a LONG time before another indie game developer tries a grand or innovative idea. "That's a great idea, Tom, but remember what happened to Hello Games with No Man's Sky? No, it's too much risk. Let's just continue to make $10-20 games."

^that's why I get pissed seeing all the childish attacks against the game and developer. It would be stupid to say it's not their fault, it is, but you have to consider the scope of the game vs the size of the team. Then with the non-console version figure how many potential hardware/API/software combos there are and just chill the f out, they can't realistically test every single thing being so small, no one can, yet they're getting above and beyond abuse others would mostly shut up about if it were those clowns at EA or something instead with teams of 100s. It's not right. I think a lot of people forget it is an indie team that did this instead of another piddly little super metroid style knockoff or smaller.

It's less about not "believing the hype" and more that we realized that the "hype" wasn't what the devs promised. A few bent truths and exaggerations, sure, but by and large, the "hype" seems to have expected a game that never got announced. For sure, the E3 presentation seemed to indicate that things would be on a bigger scale, but that type of thing is easily fixable via patches; the core product itself is basically exactly as advertised as far as I can tell.

My only real "disappointment" is that the space battles aren't as large-scale as I'd hoped, but that's like complaining about the bad storytelling in a porno; yeah, sure, I wish it had it, but that's not what they set out to make, and that's not why I consume the product (I say "consumed" instead of "bought" because seriously, who actually pays for porn these days?).

The game is a lot better off then I expected it to be at launch and the lack of any serious bugs asides from the random crashing when warping has me pretty impressed. However it does kind of suck to see a lot of the stuff featured in the trailers just not there. For instance most of the animals I've encountered are small to moderately large nothing on the scale of the giant rhino and etc featured in the gameplay vids/trailers. and the interactions between animals are very minimal. Sure things get "stranger" once you get towards the center of the galaxy supposedly but since I'm impeded by a warp system that jumps me 1/4th of what it is stating(a 1,200 light year jump is in reality 3,000 light years if you measure using the distance from the center stat on the solar system profile) getting to the center is an insanely boring task that takes weeks of in game time even with all the hyper drive upgrades :P.

I must be lucky, because I have seen a couple large creature and I am still very far away from the center. I found this large, long snouted, tiny legged cow thingy that flew on teeny tiny fairy wings. Looked like Watto from episode 1 the phantom menace

I've seen large animals, too, and I've only warped 5 times so far. People have to understand that there's 14 quintillion planets. Sorry if the first dozen or less planets you visited so far aren't "perfect" in your eyes. Not to mention, this game doesn't have scripted events. If that's what you need, then you're not playing the right game. This game, if you're concentrating on what's NOT there, you're not playing it right. You have to concentrate on what IS there, because you might not ever see that again.

Last night, I saw some larger pterodactyl type thing chasing some smaller animal. I'm 24+ hours into the game and that's the first time I've seen anything like that. I might not ever see it again. And by the way, I came to the little animal's rescue and blew that pterodactyl guy away. Mr. pterodactyl attacked me once before this, so I deemed him as an ass hole.

That pterodactyl thing might be my favorite moment that I've had with the game so far. It reminded me of Wizpig from the intro of Diddy Kong Racing.
