really enjoying Lucky's Tale.

I had an odd thing happen last night, though. A couple of times the screen just went black for two or three seconds. I could still hear music. Then it'd kick back on. Later it looked like I had a notification that said the headset had disconnected. Not really sure what was up with that. I checked and the HDMI and USB cables all seemed secure.

I suspect it's drivers as mine has done that 2-3 times recently when it hadn't before, and they've been pushing out more frequent software updates as well.

that's actually reassuring. I'd rather hear that it's a temporary driver (that'll get fixed) than something w/ my hardware setup that I'd need to troubleshoot.

so is there an easy way to take screenshots or record video footage from inside the Rift? I'd love to be able to share some of these views. Last night I fired up House Of The Dying Sun and just played around in the tutorial. But I mean just sitting INSIDE the cockpit and feeling like you're looking out through a window. I found myself just sitting in one place an admiring the distant stars and ships above and below me.

if anyone is interested in getting into VR gaming on the "cheap," RPS has given this Chinese $300 VR set a rather decent review and says that it is easy to set up and works with SteamVR stuff out of the box:

Despite having a much more comfortable headset, I'm afraid Oculus will get pushed out of the market. The ill-advised DRM issues, Palmer Lucky's recent funding of political trolls, and the lack of controllers out the gate have given the Vive a significant lead with many of the consumers I know. Of course, Playstation VR is likely what will open the doors even wider, but Oculus has quite a speed bump to get over if they want to remain competitive.

you know the DRM thing is a non-issue now, though right?

Personally I've been very happy with my Rift. It took all of 3 minutes to get it working with GearVR stuff (sitting, non-motion tracker obviously).

I don't know if there are any Rift vs Vive sales numbers out there. I'm a bit curious.

I suspect that they won't really see the kind of success they want in being the premiere marketplace for PC VR games or whatnot. Right now, there are some exclusives, but more demos and mods seem to be targeting SteamVR rather than Oculus specifically. Makes sense really, and it doesn't really bother me since the hardware works nicely either way (though not having the controllers yet is limiting).

That said, Oculus also is the backbone for GearVR, so even if they can't maintain a niche on PC, perhaps they can for mobile.

Right. Totally. I mean there's a couple exclusives I guess. But ultimately I'm happy with the Rift's hardware and the ease of using it with SteamVR stuff.

This is a great point, and I do strongly believe that the (much) lower pricepoint of mobile VR stuff will def drive the market - or at least act as a demo for PC VR stuff.
