The only thing I've really found on the internet for Magicool is this blog walkthrough: http://hibinotubuyaki06.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-92.html. I thought I needed it to get past this absurdly finicky puzzle that had to be completed to fight a siren boss. I still had to basically brute force the puzzle anyway. It is a fun game, though.

I was stuck on this boss (that seemed like it could have been the final boss) because his second form puts a 1.5 minute time limit on the fight. Also, if he wants to, he can pretty much just spin his sword around in front of him indefinitely, and become completely invulnerable. The game allows for continuing after a game over, but if you do that, instead of starting up from the last save, the game makes you play roulette with the magic spells for whatever character(s) died. Unfortunately, it's a game over if either character dies, and since the computer controls whichever character I'm not controlling, the partner character can be a bit of a liability. (It can be played with two players, though.)

Anyway, I read through the manual today, and found that after finally moving past that boss, I was about halfway through the game, according to this list of the 64 (!!) spells that can be collected throughout the games minimum 24 stages. Apparently there was a giveaway for the first 2000 people who collected all 64 of those spells. The reward was a 'not for sale' copy of Tengai Makyou 2M Version, whatever that is. I can't seem to find any info on it.

Read a review of Magicoal the other night that claimed the game was very hard in one-player mode...

I don't think it's that hard, but it's not always easy. I haven't died, except for on that one boss, though. Also, health auto regens when the characters are stationary.

Well I just got me the everdrive. Now I gotta wait to get it in the mail. The guy says every game is fully loaded in there. Hopefully it's true. Should get it by Friday.

Good. I strictly emulated for several years before buying actual consoles and this was back in 2009/2010.

I manged to scrape together some cash the other day to finally purchase the original Exile. This is probably the final North American CD-ROM game I'll get. The price of Dungeon Explorer II is too rich for my blood, so I'll just go with the import. Gonna try to build my RPG collection with games like Alshark, Basted, Emerald Dragon, Dragon Half, and others. This is a boss system.

The most accurate emu is still Mednafen, but Mednafen is CLI-based and thus cumbersome to use. Ootake is a good compromise, pretty accurate and easy to use. Can also play CD games from an ISO. nothing else is worth using, IMO.

The PCE/TG16 is such a big mysterious void to me. Where do I even begin?

I love...

Mario
Sonic
Zelda
Castlevania
Metroid
Blaster Master
Mega Man
Thunder Force
JRPG's

Is the system more arcadey, or does it have games comparable to the SNES/Genesis?

I have no idea! It's just crazy there's this massive 16bit system I haven't really touched at all because it didn't do so well in the USA. Rondo of Blood might literally be the only thing I've played.
