So is the Xbox still one of the best/moddable consoles or something? I guess since it's almost literally a PC in the box it makes sense. Might be cool to get a second one that's modded someday.

The original Xbox was a pretty advanced console for its time. A friend of mine owned one when we lived together and although we used the console mostly as a media centre, I purchased a few of the great games SEGA published on it, like Panzer Dragoon Orta and Gunvalkyrie. When I moved away, I missed not being able to play these games so much that I purchased a modded Xbox mostly to use as a media centre. Around that time, the price of Xbox games plummeted so I ended up buying a lot and then collecting games for the system.

Along with the Saturn and Gamecube, it's one of my favourite systems to collect for. There's so much underrated software available for it.

I recently picked up Metal Arms (from Racketboy's recommendation), Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, Rayman 3, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. I'm really loving BGDA2 and really need to go back and finish the original game.

From a buyer's perspective, it's nice to see that most of the games are still fairly inexpensive. I just wish I hadn't sold my copy of JSRF because it goes for a lot more now and I used to enjoy the game.

There is a solution to your JSRF woes. Just buy the Sega GT 2002/JSRF Combo it's still dirt cheap. The bundle only runs around $6-8 shipped since there are so many copies floating around. JSRF by itself is harder to find so it's price jumped due to the "rare" factor.

I've never owned the console during its active life. I got one and lost it within 3 months in a massive storm in 2012.

In any case, I take advantage of the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility and so I have 10 games which includes some staples to the console and some highly sought after games.

The most amusing game I have is Half Life 2. I've got the Orange Box but I was curious on how the game ran on the OG Xbox. It's not bad!

Edit: spell check.

The Xbox is the first console I had where it was really mine, so it holds a special spot. I played more on that big heavy clunker than on anything else back in the day. I can still remember a whole summer when I tried to get Ninja Master licked in Ninja Gaiden.

I'm looking to expand on my RPG games for Xbox. I know it wasn't an especially strong genre on the old gal, but I love the Bioware games (KOTOR1+2, Jade Empire), Morrowind, and Fable. Is The Bard's Tale Good? Is it worth it over a PC version? The games are so cheap I don't really have to worry, but I 'd like some solid RPG recommendations (Western preferably).

Yes the Xbox version is good, but the PC version is better.

Some WRPGs on Xbox that are worth playing:

The best LotR game ever made. I loved it.

The more players you have, the funner it is. But even solo it should be entertaining.

This is NOT based on the movies. This game was developed as Sea Dogs II, but it got a name swap in the hope of increased sales. If you want an action-RPG pirate game, you'll enjoy this.

These are more like SRPGs, but check 'em out on Youtube or something:

That's the first time I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean recommended, I'll have to check it out! I think I am going to pick up one or two games a month just to build up the collection.

If you enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean, you might also enjoy:
It's more an action-adventure than an action-RPG, but it's still got that pirate vibe.

XBOX was the first console of mine too so it has special place in my heart too eventhough a good chunk of the games i played on it were just ports of the games that i had already played on the PC.

It still had some great games one that weren't on the PC. The Original Xbox especially shined on the hack and slash department two of it's exclusives are some of the best hack and slash games ever created.

Which were Otogi 2 (if i was millionare i would throw money to From Software to make a sequel or a HD version of it) and Ninja Gaiden. The multiplatform Spartan Total Warrior is also a very underrated game.

The strategy/hack and slash hybrid Kingdom Under Fire was also a very interesting title.

Original Xbox also had some great shooters that PC didn't get like Red Dead Revolver (i like this one lot more than the rockstar game) Timesplitters 3, Halo2 and Darkwatch.

Project Zero is also probably my favorite horror game of all time and the best version of it is on the XBOX.

The last two quick mentions i would like throw are Dead Or Alive 2 Ultimate and Burnout 3 which are also some of the finest from their genres. Both are on PS2 but the XBOX version's are better.
