I agree with most of your opinion and glad to hear (at least in your case) it isn't just, "she's a woman, he's a man, can't do it" because it does go beyond that.
The punch on its own was reactionary and I think she was more aggressive than you are seeing (yes, we are responsible for our actions and our reactions, regardless). Where I am supportive of the league's penalty is when she falls and hits her head on the railing - she could have been dead and it had to have made a tremendous thud. You are right - he was behaving as if, "Oh crap, now look what you did, now I have to drag you to the room you idiot - oh shit, here's security, what do I say...". Nowhere does he have a sense of urgency or concern. To me, that is the damning piece.
If the league saw the video prior to today - anyone involved should be replaced. I'm also curious how the charges were leveled out - I haven't followed. Were they dropped or was it plead down? If the DA saw the video and they were dropped or plead - that person should be catching hell as well. The league - in reality, who cares, this is a legal issue first and he should be prosecuted.

Guys guys guys, we live in the PC world now. Ok? Factors or truth don't matter. He hit her. Period. It's all about PR and perception and image. They can't employ a wife beater, bottom line.
Now what I want to know is if Michael Sam right hooks his boyfriend, is that domestic abuse and does he lose his job?

If that happened and I was Roger Goodell I'd be like fuck it, I resign, the hell with the media circus that would cause. I wouldn't even want to be involved with that senerio.jvalentine98 wrote:Guys guys guys, we live in the PC world now. Ok? Factors or truth don't matter. He hit her. Period. But the spirit of the law is to protect women from men, cause they're weaker and can't defend themselves. At least, I thought. Never heard of a grown man arrested for domestic abuse on another grown man. That's just called assault.dsheinem wrote:of coursejvalentine98 wrote:if Michael Sam right hooks his boyfriend, is that domestic abuse and does he lose his job?

Not if they are in a domestic partnership/relationship. If you've never heard of it you just aren't paying very good attention.jvalentine98 wrote:Never heard of a grown man arrested for domestic abuse on another grown man. That's just called assault.

Re: NFL 2014 Thread
What it looked like to me is that he said something to her in the foyer and she slap/backhanded him, which pissed him off. He didn't want to do anything in public so he followed her in the elevator. It then seems they exchange some more words and he says something that really pisses her off or spits on her as she has a reaction. He then slaps at her, in his mind probably trying to give her back what she did to him, and to be like don't you dare slap at me type of thing. She then charges at him yelling something, probably don't put your hands on me, and that's when he decks her. The aftermath of dragging her around was an 'oh shit, now look what you made me do, well lets get you out of here..'
She is somewhat in the wrong, with the initial slap, but the rest was on him. His response elevated the level of aggression, and he answered with a higher level of violence and intimidation. This was more of a case of control and ego, the how dare you hit and disrespect me, and he was trying to 'put her in her place.' I don't really think he was ever in a situation of danger

From what I have read, both Rice and Palmer, his girlfriend at the time, were charged with assault.
Rice was indicted on third-degree aggravated assault, but neither Palmer nor Rice wanted to continue the case. He also married Palmer the day after the indictment and in May willingly submitted to a pretrial intervention program to avoid jail time and potentially have the assault purged from his record.
Also, since we were having a discussion on merchandising earlier:

Also, since we were having a discussion on merchandising earlier:
Sports Illustrated wrote:The sporting goods store Modells confirmed that it has pulled Rice jerseys from its stores, while a source told ESPN.com's Darren Rovell that Dicks Sporting Goods has also pulled the running back's jerseys from its locations.
Smyth Jewelers also announced that customers who have purchased Rice merchandise from them can return the items to one of its locations for full store credit. A donation will also be made equal to each item's purchase price to the House of Ruth Maryland to support women victims of domestic abuse and their children, Smyth said in a statement.
At Hersh's Pizza in Baltimore, those who donate Rice jerseys get free pizza and the restaurant will make a $2.70 donation to a domestic violence center for each jersey, according to ESPN.com's Darren Rovell. The restaurant collected 40 jerseys during the first four hours of the offer Monday night.
