I could watch Gruden criticize ads from a phone book. He and Madden have always captured my attention and admiration.

Part of this is a bit personal as I have a pal who writes for the http://www.reflector.com and covers ECU football. His Father was the main writer for the Philly Flyers and he decided to follow in his Father's footsteps. I see how hard he and his cronies work how little they are paid, and when I see an ex-jock who just babbles on and on without any insight I can't help but think "There are thousands, thousands of sports journalists who would be such a better fit".

I just hate to see some clown on tv who doesn't bring anything to the table who is already rich and doesn't need the job taking it away from someone who studied their entire life to become a broadcaster.
Easy, most viewers dont give a shit about joe nobody from Carolina (no offense to your friend) they want to see that 8 time pro bowler Hall of Fame player discuss football. It draws in more viewers and they can give actual football knowledge from personal experience and knowledge. Problem is not all of them are as skilled articte writers or talking heads.

If you want great nfl knowledge, listen to siriusxm nfl channel. Some guys on there like Pat Kirwan and Rich Gannon know their shit. They also have Bill Polian on and Ladainian Tomlinson whi I think does well. I dont care much for Amani Toomer, he says stupid shit too often.

No offense taken (although I wouldn't call a celebrated columnist, author, and Heisman voter a nobody).

But that's the problem with these shows as people would rather see a face than hear from someone with a brain. And get out of town with "football knowledge". These jocks just read whatever they're told to. They don't "discuss" football, they read a teleprompter and occasionally make terrible jokes.

Depends on the show. Many of times that's how it is directed. But I have also seen stuff where they go into the scaled down turf looking area and show some of the things they are talking about. Most of the pregame stuff is just humor and hitting a few talking points, not x's and o's.

But when you are talking x's and o's who better than coaches and/or players? But just like anything, there are guys who do well and guys who are lacking. I see a bunch of the shows where they arent just reading from a teleprompter and are speajing from experience.

Joe buck doesn't bother me, but tim "caption obvious" mccarver gets on my nerves. I still lol when deon poured champagne over his head. I like gruden but he is a little to nice about everything and every player he has to comment about. Collensworth doesn't bother me unlike alot of other people seem to point out. I like aikman. He seems to point out the good and the bad, but i'm a cowboys fan so i could be baised about him.

This is going to be some week.

...and as I typed that Steve Smith just went down clutching his left knee. Oh boy.

Bears vs. Eagles is my game to watch today, but man, so many great match ups.

Well shit. Romo may be out for the playoff elimination game against the eaglets sunday night. It's possible philly could hang 50 on them anyway and i expect dallas to go nowhere far in post season, but you never know.

Yeah, though Garrett wasn't saying more than "day to day" at the presser, so who knows...
