IGN gave it a 7. Very surprising.

It does look interesting, but I'm still not sure why I should buy this when I have my Duck Tales NES cartridge a few feet away from me. At least the Castle of Illusion remake is mostly a new game, but this is just the same thing with a graphics overhaul (and, personally, I prefer the NES graphics).
I'll wait to see what you guys think of it.

AKA a remake.

It seems that those who liked it compared it to the original, and those who didn't don't seem to have any idea what the original was like (the polygon review).
The negative Polygon review talked about the challenge and even said "playing a level through again just to get to the boss again [after dying] just isn't as fun as it used to be."
I think that those of us who like the original may be annoyed by the story and cut scenes, but shouldn't have a problem with the control (which was said to be similar to the original by those who played both) or the difficulty.
I'm not regretting this pre-order because of these reviews.

I did and was kinda confused about his real opinion. Many of the things he complained about were additions (dialog, cut scenes, longer levels, and the difficulty level) and at the end of the review he stated that he enjoyed the game on his second playthrough since he could remove most of what he didn't like.
Also, he even states his bias based on the fact that the NES was his favorite and if the remake isn't the same it can't live up/meet his expectations [paraphrasing]. So he didn't complain about the game itself, just what was added. I have no problem remakes adding stuff as long as the core (story and gameplay) stays true to the original.

But the Joystiq review mentioned botched gameplay...
It's jarring to see a deftly animated Scrooge march through boxy-looking 3D worlds that offer little texture variation. This approach also impacts gameplay. It's often difficult to tell where the 2D Scrooge will collide with a 3D foreground object, and lighting issues in the game's underground areas render some platforms practically invisible.
as did Polygon:
DuckTales: Remastered's controls are imprecise, stiff and unresponsive. Scrooge's pogo stick bounce is unreliable - it often stops midway through a bounce, leading to damage from enemies. Other times Scrooge can also unexpectedly stop bouncing on parts of ledges that shouldn't be an issue. This frequently leads to death due to mistimed jumps that never come.
I can skip cutscenes and what not, but these gameplay gripes seem to be a deal breaker...

I think it is based on opinion. I watched the Polygon video review and what they were showing as examples while the reviewer was making the points you refer to - looked like the way the NES game plays and struggles I personally have had.
I have a similar opinion that "Scrooge's pogo stick bounce is unreliable - it often stops midway through a bounce, leading to damage from enemies. Other times Scrooge can also unexpectedly stop bouncing on parts of ledges that shouldn't be an issue. This frequently leads to death due to mistimed jumps that never come." is an issue with the original NES version.
What the author of the joystick article says may be true and I agree that the 2.5D backgrounds can cause confusion - that can be said about any 2.5D game. I still think that that author wanted to dislike the game because of his love for the original. I could be wrong, but I take peoples opinions and use them to form my own, and for now I am not too worried about this game. I'll let you know Wednesday if I agree with the negative or positive reviewers.

as a long-time fan of this game, I'm leaning towards agreeing with SB. That said, I'm also still feeling like I'm content with my NES cart at this point.
I mean broken record, but had it been a physical release I would have paid up to show my appreciation. But at this point, I'm not so certain I see the need to get this version.
