Option you say?

In the West you're only given the option to download X2 HD on Vita, you cannot buy it physically on a card. But in Japan if you buy the X/X2 HD twinpack on card it actually includes both games on the card, no downloading needed for X2. Conversely, if you'd rather buy X/X2 HD online and download them instead, you can do so in Japan. That's an actual option for the Japanese player. But it's not one for the English speaking Western customer. The situation is disingenuous for the sake of being cheap. If Japanese gamers are good enough to get both games on the card, then Western gamers should deserve the same.

I really don't see why this is worth getting worked up over.

Yeah, someone will always find a reason to complain. Unfortunate? Sure. Not worth getting pissed off about though. Pick the best option from what is available.

Apologist views like these are why SQEX doesn't take our market seriously anymore. A passive consumer is an enabling one.

They are different markets. X-2 probably sold much better in Japan when it was first released than it did in the states. Everyone hated the damn game when it came out here, and a lot of people still do, whereas I would hazard a guess that the game is a bit more popular in Japan.

Yes, its about money, they are running a business. It just makes more sense to not waste space on the card, for such an eccentric game. I'm happy to get the game at all.

I'm also not upset that Sega didn't waste money releasing a physical copy of Hatsune Miku in the west, even though it had a physical release in Japan, because that would just be a poor business strategy. You have to know your market.

I'm glad to see someone so excited about the game though!

I honestly believe SQEX does not know the Western market's sales potential at all anymore. Hence other companies not named Square Enix are publishing Square Enix games here lately... and making plenty of money doing so.

Yes, because getting 'pissed off' on a retro gaming forum that we are only getting a game digitally on a system that has been mostly overlooked is going to give SE valuable feedback.
There has been a growing trend/acceptance of gamers buying digital copies of games. This will continue to happen.

They have a point of reference with these games though. X-2 was not as well recieved when it was first released, its an average game at best, and it screams "download only title"

Do you mean to imply otherwise?
