Seriously I'm mostly tired of every platformer being either Mario or another puzzle thing.
As others have pointed out, there are tons of excellent platformers in the indie scene. Check out some of these:

VVVVVV
Super Meat Boy
Dustforce
La Mulana
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
Mutant Mudds
Bionic Commando: Rearmed
Noitu Love 2
Iconoclasts
NyxQuest
Bit.Trip Runner
Super Run Man
Canabalt
Sideway
Cardboard Box Assembler
Sonic Generations
Iji
Cave Story
Thomas Was Alone
Give Up Robot 2
Mega Man VS Street Fighter

Nintendork666 wrote:A side-scrolling Insane Clown Posse platformer where you switch between the heavy (but stronger) Violent J, and the lighter and quicker Shaggy 2 Dope (like DKC Returns). There are a multitude of weapons to hack n' slash your enemies (mostly comprised of cops, and bigots) with. Including but not limited to: hatchets (default), axes, chainsaws, and .44's. You can only hold one weapon at a time, and stronger weapons eventually fade - limited ammo/chainsaw fuel.

Jokers Cards like the Ringmaster, Great Milenko, or the Mighty Death Pop are hidden throughout each level, and unlock powerful magic attacks (useful for Boss fights). At the end of the game you finally make it to Shangri-La. Blaze, ABK, Madrox, and Monoxide are unlockable characters; Hatchetmen are 1up's, but continues are infinite because wicked clowns never die.

Comes with original OST recorded by the entire Psychopathic Family, a big box, and a high-quality art book. PS3/Wii-U exclusive. 3DS version coming soon.
Final boss is a magnet.

Banjo-Kazooie Threeie
Final Fantasy VI-2
Final Fantasy VI: Terra Returns
Actraiser 3
EVO Search For Eden 3
Starcraft Ghost

Too bad Nintendo doesnt own the full rights to Banjo-Kazooie, would of loved to see a proper sequel and not that nuts and bolts crap.

I think FF6 would be better off not being milked to the high heavens

Eh, I got kind of bored with that one. But yeah that would count, though you could put the whole gravity thing as a giant puzzle. I won't though....
Mega Man 10
Yeah sure, but trying to stay with the topic and avoid sequels.
Little Big Planet
But...that is a puzzle platformer....

JT I have played some of those. I'm not saying there are none just that I'd like to see more original ones and better ones. Seems like 80% of the ones that come out are puzzle platformers now.

Going off that list I'd also like to see ones that aren't copies of I Wanna Be The Guy with the one hit kill jump puzzles.

Mostly I was just venting that there aren't many ones out these days that don't rely on a specific repetitive mechanic, or a long going series (Sonic, Kirby, Mario).

I don't see it that way - not like Limbo, Braid, etc. I can't recall much more "puzzle" in any LBP title than what you'd find in a Mario or Sonic game...have you played them?

I haven't actually, been meaning to. But it has always been described to me as a puzzle platformer so other titles have stayed above it for the time being. Maybe I'll rent it next weekend...

A Sega rpg using the best characters from all their consoles. Kinda like Kingdom Hearts using all Disney characters.

You could have a team of Vector-man, Shinobi, Sonic, NiGHTS, Sketch(from comixzone), etc, etc...

Project X Zone is pretty close. It's not strictly a Sega RPG, but it's a Sega, Capcom, and Namco crossover.
