It probably is. But I still find it to be one of those games I don't get tired of. The controls are just spot on. Even if you're not trying to accomplish anything, running around the first course aimlessly is fun. Can't say the same for all the highly praised Rare games of the era.

If you played it when it came out, you'd see how good it is. If you've played lots of other 3D platformers its release, of course one of the pioneers may not hold up as good today.
It's like someone who grew up playing the PS1 Final Fantasy series going back to try the NES version.
Yeah...that isn't it. It isn't before my time or anything.

Very true and I don't count out its awesome programming and influence on 3D games after. For some reason I just get a little bored by the end.

Well, if getting bored by the end disqualified a game from me liking it, there'd be a lot of them. I agree that a large portion of Mario 64 gets pretty boring, and I've never bothered trying to collect all the stars (really, 100 lives? Who cares?). Honestly, a lot of the later levels where you spend more time trying to figure out what to do than actually doing it, are pretty lame. I'm just not into that sort of gameplay, I much prefer the simple but challenging stages like Lava Land and the Bowser ones.

Man, I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I discovered this was the only reward for collecting all the stars. I thought the ending would change somehow, or I'd get to play as Yoshi, not just run into him, or something. I remember thinking, "Well, this could have been useful... if I hadn't already beaten everything there was to beat in this game!!" Oh well. I never found any of the game boring, though, so it was worth it. I do wonder if I would have pushed through if I'd known ahead of time what the prize for 100% completion was, however.

I couldn't have said it better myself. But I think I've still beaten the game 100% at least 5 times.

I personally can't stand playing an entry in a series if it isn't set up as a standalone game. IE, playing The Witcher 2 without playing the Witcher is killing me.

100%ing super mario 64 makes your 3rd jump all sparkly after you talk to yoshi.

I never understood the purpose of the sparkly jump, but hey I guess it beats a non-sparkly jump.

Jaws and Oddjob are totally in the Egyptian level of Goldeneye.

I found the Gold Tunic in OoT by pulling it out of the tree next to the ranch with the fishing rod!

Then I found the TRIFORCE!
