Red ringing isn't quite as much of a big deal as it is sometimes made out to be. I do agree that it happens more often than it needs to, but don't buy another system just because you think your 360 will overheat. You should also keep it horizontal because the biggest fan is on the bottom.
It's always in the horizontal position, has lots of air getting to the fan, and I got the S model as it's meant to be the "better" Xbox for not overheating. I haven't had the red ring but the white screen freeze is the start of it apparently. Did a repair request on the Microsoft site and entered the serial # etc. Turns out mine is out of warranty. It's 14 months old. They quoted me £62 for the repair which is steep so I am a bit disappointed seeing as it's happened to me before with a white Xbox. I have friends who are on their first Xbox still, so I know it's not overly common but I'm just cursing my luck it's happened to me. For me, Xbox is the best console as I love the Gears games, Splinter Cell, Bayonetta, Saints Row, my friends all have Live, and I just bought Skyrim. I will try and get it fixed cheaper but I won't be too phased if it happens again, there are a LOAD of Wii games I want to play like the Mario Galaxy and Zelda titles.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

First thing I'm doing immediatley after this generation is over- I'm going to get a better fan and either JTag or some type of Soft Mod for my 360. I'd love to be able to run CxBx on it, and have access to ALL OXbox games, not just some.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.
