Weird, I just looked at this topic while looking at the list of active topics and was actually thinking about Heavy Rain. I got the best ending I believe when I beat it, but it still was a tragic ending for one particular character. Heavy Rain doesn't HAVE a good ending. It's basically of matter of reducing the number of characters who get screwed or killed by as much as possible, but there's no way to have an ending with everyone happy at the end

Let's see...A game that did make me cry was Sly 2. The writing, dialogue and characters were so good. I really felt a connection to them as a player and related to all of them. As a computer programmer, sarcastic lady killer, and martial artist I was pretty much all three in one :P All seriousness aside, everyone needs to play this game. Even if you don't weep you'll probably be affected at the end. It's a really cool platformed besides.

Jeanne D'Arc really surprised me with the death of a character that was especially sudden and really gruesome. Not the kind of dignified death that usually comes to pretty RPG girls. I really missed her after that - I had to adjust my gameplay too.

Sly 2 didn't make me cry, but what happened at the end was surprisingly tragic for a family friendly platformer. I've always felt that the makers of that series take the writing and story more seriously than they needed to, which I have always appreciated. There's true character development over the course of the three games. Sly 3 really impressed me by how some of the romance stuff was handled(Bentley and his girl are cute together) and the way the story tested the loyalties of Sly's friends was very cool as well. The Sly series is a cut above Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank, though I do love the R&C series. I anxiously await Sly Cooper 4

The death you refer to in Jeanne D'arc truly shocked me. It really was a painful thing to bear witness too and I never saw it coming. Forget you know who's death in FF 7, this was far more emotional and affecting. I might even say it is the most gut wrenching death I've seen in a game

Crisis Core's ending was another one that was painful to watch and surprisingly brutal. You know what's going to happen when you start playing that game because it is the prequel to FF 7, but it was still kind of heart wrenching to see as they didn't pull any punches with it. It was bloody. Granted, the game doesn't have one of the most amazing stories ever. A lot of it is silly, japanese cliches, but the stuff between Zak, Cloud and Aerith gave the game heart and really held the otherwise ridiculous story up quite well

For those of you who have played Valkyria Chronicles, two sad deaths in that game that were very well handled by whoever wrote the story

The part in Grandia ll where Mareg sacrifices himself so the rest of your party can escape to safety really tore at me. For some reason I was really invested in the story and characters, but I usually become quite engrossed in RPG's if they are compelling.

Yeah, everything involving her really elevated that game's story a lot. It's easy to see how a guy could love her. She's one of my favorite gaming females, even though I know she's actually based on a comic book character

Grandia 2 totally sucked me in when I first played it too. Looking back at it years later, the story is kinda typical overall, but the characters have a charm that pulls you in. Its unrelated, but I love the music too.

It remains one of my favorite games.
