Okay got hold of the PS2 NICO promo DVD, some interesting footage showing early builds.

Image Image

Instead of Final Fantasy inspired look of Wander, A grown up ICO is seen battling the colossus. ICO wore a helmet with the same horns. Of note, during the early demo videos, there is two additional knights riding alongside the battle. Was a two player or maybe a team mode maybe proposed at the time? Would have really been one of the more unusual team battles. Oh, if only an unlock somewhere on the disc.

Another video, a later build of SOTC is also interesting. The lion bull colossus really looks closer to a huge Japanese temple lion dog. The head proportion is larger then the final cut. I think maybe after a little tweaking, would have been a great creature to battle.

Japanese Temple Lion Dog. See the resemblance?

There is also footage of the PS1 ICO version. pretty amazing what was done on this canceled beta. CG footage to be supplemented with the PSX game screen was a nice surprise, Yorda looking very human, though ICO looked like an elf.

Just read through this topic, and it actually got me pretty excited to play Shadow of the Colossus, which I bought last year and have had sitting in a box since then. The art style of the Team Ico games really has a Panzer Dragoon vibe to it.

Well, now that we have it on Amazon preorder I decided to get the ICO/SotC PS3 bundle. After seeing how much praise SotC gets around here I figured I might as well pick it up.

Okay got some confirmation on the PAL version of Shadow of the Colossus.

Is there a making of video and ICO Trailer in PAL Shadow Colossus?

It offers 60hz for sure. Yes there is, for sure. I seem to remember that both only play in 60hz, but my ps2 is broken, so I can't guarantee that. It's on the disc itself. Theres a possibility it could be PAL60- would that still work? probably means 576 lines instead of 480.

And yes, I just checked and they are in the PAL version. They're under a section called Bonus Material in the main menu along with a Gallery. Do you have that in the NTSC version? However, a message pops up beside both when you highlight them saying that the videos will only play in 50hz, sorry. Besides that, I'm under the impression that there are some other extras to the SOTC PAL version too, like a squirrel during the ending. Also, you've got to love the cardboard cases they come in. they're exceptional!

Yep, I play in 60hz. I can't tell if it switches to 50hz or if it's a bordered 60hz but I would assume that it reverts to 50hz as it says.

As well as the Bonus Material and some glitches removed, the PAL version also has a squirrel appear during the last cutscene of the game. He doesn't show up in any other versions of the game. I believe fans of the game call him Pal or Pally the Squirrel. :D I'm sure you'd be able to see him on YouTube

I am going to have to get either the PAL or japanese version for the extra stuff.

Does anyone know if SOTC Japanese Best version has an ICO Game Trailer?

I saw that part of that movie.

Anyways...

Did anyone see this? From wikipedia talking about the Ico/Shadow PS3 Collection:
The Ico port will also be based on the European version, and will include features such as Yorda's translation and the two-player mode.

I was going to look into the PAL version because of the 2-player feature but I guess I'll get this instead.

It's getting time to buy a PS3! :)

I canNOT wait for this. Seriously. SOTC is so totally one of my favorite games now. I don't usually replay a game so soon, but I really want this PS3 re-release.

I played it for a few minutes when I had a chance yesterday. I almost have all the bonus items for Hard Mode. :)
