Most hardcore gamers do like to play online for at least one or two games and paying yearly is the cheapest way to do it. Also note that I was pricing based on suggested retail price from amazon.com, so ya, the adaptor might be cheaper now other places, but its still in the 70 to 80 dollar range. Considering that wifi is standard on most electronic products now paying between 70 and 100 dollars is ridiculously pricey.

I looked at it from a purely finacial perspective. I didn't look at how the PS3/360 online works, nor who has better exclusives. For all the same features and additions, PS3 is cheaper though, no question. You can not say otherwise.

Oh and if you had cared enough to read my second post, I stated that without the same features of PS3, a 360 will run $239.97. Cheaper then PS3 yes, but that 100 dollars more for PS3 adds 4 features compared to one feature of an elite 360 unit.

You're still assuming everyone is going to actually use all of those features. I know I don't. You can't come out and say it's the more cost effective system, but only if you were to buy all of the optional stuff the other one has. If you're gonna do that, you have to factor in the cost of a blue tooth headset, since you don't get one, the price difference from buying blu rays, and the fact that you're getting extra features and functionality with XBL Gold.

I know I am assuming, I said so multiple times. Ive been comparing on a strictly full package deal because there are too many variables from person to person that can effect the final purchase price, like what if I already had a blu ray player, or I don't have a TV close to my Ethernet cabling, maybe I don't have a stable internet connection at all, or Im not going to use the system for games but rather as a media hub. You can't compare all those variables. I have been comparing what the systems would cost for similar experience if you were to have either of them. Why would I compare them in a way were they do not have a similar experience. I never once said you had to get all the features for 360, I was just making a point that the whole PS3 is so more expensive argument is wrong. You pay more upfront compared to an arcade 360 but you get more bang for your buck in terms of features.

I do admit that I forgot about the bluetooth headset, which bumps the PS3 complete package up by $20 minimum. So about $359.97

As for the extra features of XBL gold, the only one I believe currently missing from PSN is cross game voice chat. Again, not diving into which of the online system works better or has a better user interface, etc. Thats a topic of a different discussion.

And finally, the cost difference between Blu rays and DVDs is marginal in most cases. Pure and Lego Batman (which come free in the Elite Bundle) retail for $19.99 on amazon or 360 and PS3, despite the fact that Blu Rays are 'more expensive'. And its not just older games, Modern Warfare 2 on amazon retails for $59.99 on both 360 and PS3. The only difference I can ever find in Blu Ray prices is with movies, but a pricing scheme for movies doesn't really exist, they just price them based on how popular the movie is most of the time. And if there is a difference in price its not more then 5 dollars max in most cases (from my experience).

I was talking about movies. New Blu-Ray movies are priced $10 more than new dvds.

The point is, which will be more cost effective will depend entirely on what features you're ACTUALLY going to use, and of course, what games you're ACTUALLY going to want.

.

How come the 360 games are cheaper?

They just are in this country. Sales and offers are more common on the 360. Take for example Resident Evil 5, it's £10-12 on 360. Cheapest you can find Resi 5 on PS3 is £15. Granted, it's not much, but it's still a saving. Bioshock is £20-25 everywhere on PS3, 360 it's £10. Used it can be found for as little as £10 360, but on PS3 it's £15.

This isn't assumption. The games are cheaper on 360.

Don't forget that you don't get a HD cable at all, not even component lead with the PS3. So that adds another £5-10 onto the price of a PS3.

360 Elite 120GB Console £179.99
Phillips Bluray player £70
Total: £249.99

PS3 Slim 120GB console £249.99
HDMI cable £5
Headset £15
Total: £269.99

If you were smart about it, you would take the 360, since it saves you more money in the long run, due to cheaper games and less power consumption overall. If you just wanted to play the games and online/HD movies don't appeal to you at all, then the Arcade for £110 including 2 games and an extra controller is a no brainer. You wouldn't consider the PS3 AT ALL, it's just not even in the same league price wise, even the Wii looks overpriced compared to the Arcade.

May 2008 when i walked into best buy to get a 360 i had a last second descision and chose the PS3 over it instead, blu-ray, no RROD, plus free online, and i also dont give a crap about gears of war or halo. Those are enough reasons to get one.

I haven't seen much evidence of this. Yeah, sure, PS3 games usually are more expensive, but not by much when they are. Usually, they aren't. Every brick 'n mortar I've been to sells Bioshock for PS3 for the same price as Bioshock for the X360. Hell, I got a brand new copy of Bioshock for the PS3 for $15 at Target, at a time when Bioshock for the 360 was still selling for about $30.

Maybe things are wildly different from America over there.

You forgot to factor in the XBLA membership (why else would you throw the headset into the PS3 Slim bundle if you weren't trying to say "They need to play games online") as well as the Wireless Network Connection - unless you want to have a 50 foot chord running from one side of the house to the other. I tried that before - didn't work out for me.

That was the thing that pissed me off the most about the X360 - charging $100 for something that should be a quarter of that. Charging $159 for a 120 GB Hard Drive when I could pay half that to get a hard drive with double the capacity.

Then I'd have to buy a Wireless Network Adapter for my computer...
