I can agree with you from a technical accomplishment angle. But from a fun factor one, I for one enjoyed Super Mario RPG a lot more than Final Fantasy VII.

It wasn't until listening to the latest Collectorcast that I learned that PSOne games are backwards compatible on ALL PS3s.

I mean, I have a PS2 slim set up next to it so I use that for any PSOne gaming but was interesting to note.

There are a few issues with the backwards compatibility on the PS3, but overall it works really well. Having a nice wireless controller and almost limitless save space helps. I have had a few games crash on it, but nothing game breaking. I learned about that about a year after I got my PS3.

I love the old Theme Park and Theme Hospital games, but Steam doesn't have them and at this point in time I feel like $5.99 each on GOG is too pricey. Gotta be another way.....

Wait for a sale on GOG. Give it time, they'll eventually pop up for under $3.

So I have a few series in my backlog but I don't want to do the mistake of playing sequels that are not worthwhile or feel more or less the same. I did that mistake with GTA 3,VC, SA and I just felt like having too much of a good/same thing. help me find the best ones:

God of War: 1-2-3
Tomb Raider: 1-2-3
Crash Bandicoot: 1-2-3
Uncharted: 1-2-3
Devil May Cry: 1-2-3
Fallout: 1-2

I mean exactly that. I think the biggest graphic jumps were Atari/Commodore -> 16 bit and then 16bit->32Bit

You're going to run into more of the same with pretty much all of those.

Of those, I've beaten God of War 1/2, all the Uncharted games, and DMC1/3. It just depends on what you're looking for. DMC and GoW are both in similar categories, but the DMC games require a bit more precision from the player. GoW is a good deal more "brutish" in nature.

If you like Prince of Persia-style games, I'd go with Uncharted. The second game in the series is definitely the best.

I see the graphical jumps a bit differently. I think the big jumps were from, say, 3rd gen to 4th gen, and 5th gen to 6th gen. I think graphics, overall, took a step back in the 5th gen simply because of the change to 3D. Sure, it was impressive to see 3D from a technical standpoint, but from an aesthetic one, the 4th gen holds up a lot better overall...

...except for the stellar-looking sprite-based games in the 5th gen. Man, there was some pretty stuff there.

That was easy!

I'd say skip Uncharted and God of War, no idea about Devil May Cry or Fallout. For Tomb Raider, skip 3 altogether, and perhaps play Anniversary or Legends. TR 2 > TR1. For Crash, it goes 3 > 2 > 1.
I mean exactly that. I think the biggest graphic jumps were Atari/Commodore -> 16 bit and then 16bit->32Bit
But it didn't go from Atari/Commdore to 16-bit. Here are some release dates:

Atari VCS 1977
Intellivision 1980
ColecoVision 1982
Famicom 1983
Master System 1985
PC Engine 1987
Mega Drive 1988
Super Famicom 1990

I also don't think the jump from 16 bit to 32 bit was that outrageous, if we consider the 3DO and even pre-rendered games like Donkey Kong Country. The evolution was slow, though I don't disagree that the jump from 16 to 32 was the largest seen before or after. Since I didn't have a 3DO, Final Fantasy VII was (visually) impressive to me, too. If I had only been more in-the-know, though, I doubt it would have been that great, especially with the FMV stuff I played on Sega CD and computers.
