It always comes down to buses and their ability to make it to stops. We've had school w/a foot of fluffy stuff and we've canceled w/3-5" of the thick sloppy stuff.
The issue now is that it's April and most small cities hire temporary workers to supplement the regular grounds/maintenance crews to drive late October to late March. We always have a little snow in April, but usually an inch or two and it melts quickly. Getting hit w/2 significant snowfalls and cool temps is not the norm.
We had a nice week at the end of March. Our plow teams cut in half and most folks took off their snow tires just like usual. So now w/heavy snow, things are running a bit like how they'd run if we had a blizzard in July. Slow and sloppy.
I love the snow and the cool weather - just bummed about the school stuff and the longer commute to work. Things could be significantly worse.

It's snowing so hard, I can't see more than 5 feet out my window right now.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The snow days have really effed me up this year. I don't even know when the last day of school is. Still snow on our yard here.

What is really going to suck about all this snow here in the state is when it all melts and finds its way into the rivers and causes flooding. It's supposed to be hitting sixty degree temps in the next week or two. It will all be melting fast and filling the Mississippi faster then it can move the water down stream. Should be an interesting summer if we ever end up getting one.

Hey mjmjr, from what we can see of it, you have a nice looking place.

Thank you. We bought it for the property and the school district, the house itself is a bit small for a family of 6 (2,000 sq ft, split level), primarily when we moved in there was zero built in storage. We've addressed some of that and are planning an addition.Ack wrote:Hey mjmjr, from what we can see of it, you have a nice looking place.
There are really only 2 cosmetic concerns, you can probably see that the front of the garage, front of the shed (not in the pics) and the side of the house all get a ton of direct sunlight, so 1/4 of all 3 buildings have sunfaded siding while the rest looks fine.
Also, when the snow is gone, our driveway is a mess. We had our mound septic system put in place 18 months ago and those trucks buckled our asphalt drive, so it works, but it's ugly. All the contractors told us it would happen and it was a known thing going in.

Frown: Planned on sleeping in a bit today, but the phone was ringing off the hook at around 6:45am.
Smile: It was my buddy Pringles calling to ask if I wanted to go to the local Farmer's Market with him. Hells yes.
Besides the great and sometimes freakish produce they sell (carrots as thick as your forearm) some vendors sell prepared foods. There is this one tiny lady from South America who makes incredible empanadas. I nabbed a sweet potato empanada, and Pringles bought and ate three in this order: Chocolate, Beef, Pineapple.
I also learned that the same lady sells tamales, so I grabbed four of those as well. Soooo good. Chicken tamales for breakfast at 8am? Why not?
Also got a great deal on a pint of perky plump strawberries, a spicy habanero jelly, and a basket full of gorgeous callaloo.
Frown: Going ladder shopping with the in-laws later. There is simply no way an eight foot ladder is going to be tall enough to cover my house. I spoke with my Father and the first thing he said was "Luke, you have ten foot ceilings for crying out loud! How is an eight foot ladder going to help?". I said that I was going to push for a sixteen foot ladder and my Father then said "You need a twenty foot ladder if you want to attempt a decent job. And it needs to be a twenty foot A-frame that is collapsible ladder so you can store the sucker. And buy a Werner. Last thing you want is a cheap ladder".
I'm keeping my smiley face on, but today may be a looooooong day.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Went to my medical terminology class today. Missed last week because I have been sick with a series of horrible illnesses. Teacher asked if I was alright and I said, "eh...about 70%" and she told me to leave because I could get other people sick for the final exam next week. I was in shock. I told her I was fine and she said that she couldn't take that risk and told me to leave. We were reviewing for the final in a class that has not taught a thing so I thought it crucial and she thought otherwise. I was in complete shock as I was be herded out that I had no idea what to say or do, so I just left.

Smile: Tonights the night! Going to see Bill Cosby in Greenville!
He's doing two shows and we're going to the second one, so I'm going to take one of my LP covers in the hopes he'll sign it. Even if he doesn't come out to meet people after the show (most performers do, but some don't), maybe he'll let the security guy bring it back, sign it and then give it back to me. Fingers crossed.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

totally not ignoring the rest of the cool stuff you mentioned, but habanero jelly?? awesome!
There's a place here in Austin called Gourdoughs Donuts. They serve sweet as well as savory donuts. As the name implies, they're 'gourmet' type donuts and they ROCK! They aren't typical cake donuts. They're the more soft, doughy type of bread. Really good stuff. There's one - which for some reason I can't remember the name of - that is covered in philly cream cheese, fried ham slices and then drizzled with jalapeno jelly. OH MY GOD it is amazing.
I love non-standard jellies and jams!
