I have trouble understanding the purpose of Netflix. If you aren't interested in keeping/buying whatever the media in question is, why would you waste $10 a month or whatever on this service?

To watch pretty much any movie or series you can think of in high quality on your TV/laptop/whatever any time you want? And if it's not on their streaming service you could probably get it on DVD. Even I think $10/month is a steal for that, and I hate digital distribution for exactly the reasons you've stated :P

I can do that right now without spending $10 a month and without the help of Netflix though (so can anyone).

Ease of access + $10 a month for Netflix is WAY less than $60 a month for cable TV.

And yeah, anyone can torrent anything. But that is a huge pain in the ass.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I can't argue that Netflix is a way better deal than cable tv, but, cable tv sucks in the first place.

I have to disagree about torrents being a huge pain in the ass though. I think it's pretty easy to click on a link and begin a download.

But then you have to wait for the download to finish, hope that leechers don't out number seeders, blah blah blah. I like my entertainment now, without having to plan ahead.

Another thing I'm liking about Netflix is that it is easy to provide feedback on shows and movies - which as a cable TV viewer is impossible unless you are a Nielson household. I like to support shows and studios that make the entertainments I enjoy.

Well, you can provide feedback as a cable user, but you have to do it on IMDB or TV.com. It's easier on Netflix though.

Regardless of whether you're able to get movies and shows through other, free, means...$10/month is nothing. For the ease of access and not having to transfer stuff you download over to a flash drive to pop in your PS3 or set up a media server to stream video from, etc etc etc...I think that's more than worth it. If I actually watched movies and TV shows I'd be all over a Netflix account.

Smile: Took the wife and some friends to a minor league basketball game today and had seats a row back from the first base line. A PITCHER of beer was like Eight Bucks. I pay about a dollar an ounce at hockey games, a sport that you think would promote more drinking. Almost all concessions were $3.00 or less, and the servers were all gorgeous college East Carolina blondes who always smiled and smelled of strawberry shampoo. Or maybe it was strawberry lip gloss. Whatever it was, the girls were 10's and smelled great.

Frown: Our team lost, bad and they didn't seem to care or want to play. But no real complaints.
