Depending on the angle you're looking at his career from, I can see how someone could reach that conclusion. Most of Warren Spector's video game career has seen him act as a producer or studio director. Not a hands on game director or game designer. Actually there are only three games in his career that he himself directed.Erik_Twice wrote:I just saw someone call Warren Spector a "one-hit wonder".
Warren Spector did direct Deus Ex. (But Harvey Smith designed the game.) Another game that Warren Spector directed was Epic Mickey. (He also helped to design it, but was aided by three other designers in doing so.) Lastly, Warren Spector directed Epic Mickey 2. (He helped design Epic Mickey 2 also.) Now consider that Warren Spector only actually directed three games, yet only Deus Ex was a hit. In that regard I can totally understand how someone could call him a one hit wonder.
