Depending on the angle you're looking at his career from, I can see how someone could reach that conclusion. Most of Warren Spector's video game career has seen him act as a producer or studio director. Not a hands on game director or game designer. Actually there are only three games in his career that he himself directed.

Warren Spector did direct Deus Ex. (But Harvey Smith designed the game.) Another game that Warren Spector directed was Epic Mickey. (He also helped to design it, but was aided by three other designers in doing so.) Lastly, Warren Spector directed Epic Mickey 2. (He helped design Epic Mickey 2 also.) Now consider that Warren Spector only actually directed three games, yet only Deus Ex was a hit. In that regard I can totally understand how someone could call him a one hit wonder.

Admittedly you're right, Epic Mickey has had nowhere the influence and critical impact of Deus Ex, but it did still sell remarkably well(1.3 million units in a month), and it did reasonably well with the critics.

But I suspect that whoever made that statement wasn't thinking of limiting games only to those he specifically directed and said this more out of ignorance to Spector's career at large.

He didn't consider Ultima Underworld or System Shock to be (And I quote) "nothing to write about", so yeah, I don't think it's a matter of attributions

Considering it was on NeoGAF I do not doubt that's the case. Sometimes it's fun to play devil's advocate through.

Cool! I'll see if I can make it a little less distracting and I'll go back to my other articles to add them.

Thanks for checking it out, Ack :)

I browse NeoGAF a few times a week because there are interesting things that pop up there quite a bit.

It's so cute how they think they're a step above any other gaming forum though considering the gigantic amounts of shit that also shows up. :P

I counted now, including remakes there's 8 (2 to be released) games on the vita... i know this kind of things has his market... but 8 games? That's... a bit too much.

It get's better when you read the descriptions: "Idol-raising simulator game with rhythm and dating sim elements."
