Ack wrote:Sure, but this lady could even tell if you added onion salt to something, such as in chili or as part of a rub for meat. It was uncanny. I once finely chopped and added a tablespoon of onions to a gallon of soup, and she took one bite and immediately said, "You put in onions."
Does she have an issue with any other food in the same way?
Some people have a mild quercetin allergy and become hyper sensitive to it. It is not that they cannot eat the food, they can just taste something like onions or cranberry in a dish no matter how diluted and that is what their tastebuds fixate on. Quercetin is a flavonoid that is found in onions, hackberry, fennel, cranberry, and a variety of other places.

Not only that, but certain foods might give someone a "sensation" in addition to taste. (For example, consuming onions might cause a person's mouth to tingle, head to ache, etc. regardless of whether he or she "tasted" the onion flavor.)

A buddy took me out for a birthday lunch today at his favorite sushi joint, and I was impressed beyond words. Four courses (maybe more, I'm still in a food coma) but the stand out was the uni, or sea urchin. Best I've had in my life.
I'm still floored on how great the food, prices, and presentations were.
My new go to to impress people for sure.

I made tuna stuffed chicken tonight, which is essentially a chicken kiev with the herb butter replaced with tuna salad. Turned out quite delicious.

That would have been appropriate, but I'm a Starkist man.
