Re: Games Beaten : 2011
Games Beaten:
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the DS
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for the PS3
Sonic 4: Episode 1 for the PS3
Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee for the original Xbox
Portal 2(PS3)
Flower(Playstation Network)
Darksiders (PS3)
Alice Madness Returns(Xbox 360)
The Dishwasher Vampire Smiles - 9/10
I finished both characters' story mode and just finished Arcade mode a few minutes ago. The game is probably my favorite 2d beat'em up on PSN or Xbox Live Arcade right now, though the last stage of arcade mode brings a whole new definition to the words cheap and frustrating. It tarnished an otherwise excellent game for me.
Story mode is fantastic all the way through. Lots of stylish, visual touches and some video game references to Mortal Kombat and Samurai Warrior: The Battles of Usagi Yojimbo if I'm not mistaken. This game is more balanced and accessible than the first one I think, and it still has that fun, Ninja Gaiden in 2D, feel to it. In fact, this pretty much IS Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden 2 in 2D I'd say, but it designed much, much better

Re: Games Beaten : 2011
Just beat Heavy Rain... it was okay. Won't be playing it again I don't think. But before this (since January), I think I've only beaten God of War III, the new Mortal Kombat, and Metal Slug 1-5.

The First 50: January-June
Adventure - Atari 2600 *new*
Gunhed - PCE *new*
Limbo - 360 *new*
2011 TOTAL: 53
2010 Games Beaten
Adventure and Gunhed (Blazing Lazers) I beat for the Snickerd00dle Summer Challenge thread and shared my thoughts over there...
Limbo was really a fun experience. I have read comparisons of Limbo to other artistic games like Braid and Flower, but honestly Limbo is probably the most straightforward traditional gaming experience of the lot - which is a good thing in this case. The game is an excellent puzzle platformer, with an emphasis on using some of your instincts against you. I died many times, and the game gets more difficult in the last half hour or so, but I would still recommend it to anyone.

I heard it's coming to PSN soonish, so plan to pick it up then.

The First 50: January-June
Adventure - Atari 2600
Gunhed - PCE
Limbo - 360
Crimzon Clover - PC *new*
Army of Darkness - iPhone *new*
2011 TOTAL: 55
2010 Games Beaten
Crimzon Clover is high in my running for GOTY at this point, and I very much doubt that we'll see a better shmup in this generation. The fact that it is a doujin release and basically created by one person is amazing. Beautiful sprite work, crisp control, amazing speed, and one of the best set of options and extras for a shmup make this the complete package. It rivals or bests some of the offerings from Cave, has a shop for unlocking ships and credits, and has a rocking soundtrack, enemy design, and exhilarating bullet dodging. I haven't mastered original mode (nor sure I ever will), but I have now beaten it on Simple Mode. I don't think there's an indie game on my "beaten" lists from this year or last that I could more highly recommend to people. Go get it, now.
Army of Darkness is a currently free iPhone/iPad tower defense style game based on the classic film. It is a laugh riot, addictive, challenging at points, and everything else a great iOS game should be. I also recommend everyone give this one a look while you can grab it for free.
