I've come to the conclusion that the success of this relies entirely on the narrative and marketing of the Switch. The fact it is a super powerful portable, the successor to the GameBoy and DS/3DS,

I thought Nintendo made it very clear that this is mainly a home console and not successor to DS/3DS. I don't think they will let the Switch eat into their 3DS astronomical sales.

I remember them saying a similar thing about the DS and the GameBoy Advance

Update: As our own Nick Robinson points out, this setup means that if your Joy-Con controllers die while you’re using them wirelessly and you don’t own a Charging Grip, the only way to keep playing is to use the Switch in portable mode — i.e., pick up the unit and slide the Joy-Con pads onto it, so you can use them while they charge. Not ideal!

Already discussed it and already came to the conclusion (at least I did) that since they last 20 hours and you charge them buy sliding them onto the Switch whilst docked, it's really not a big deal.

Play Switch for a bit, stick them back on the dock to charge, problem solved. How difficult is it to dock then after each use? Is anyone going to play for more than 20 hours without breaking?

Seriously. I mean, sure, it's not ideal, but it's hardly the end of the world. I agree with blu's concerns about the online service, but the Joycon charging hardly seems like something worth complaining about.

Why even make a non-charging version though? It's not like they cost much to actually manufacture either way.

If the batteries do hold a 20 hour charge it's not a big deal really. However I'm curious to see how the battery hold up over time. Down the road in a year or two if they start failing to hold a charge I could see it being a problem unless the battery is cheap/easy to replace.

Really I don't think it will be an issue for a while though unless we have another Note 7 style disaster with faulty batteries.

speaking of the Classic Controller, I hope y'all that are excited about Street Fighter II are gonna get one. Cuz y'know the Joycons don't have dpads...
