So far this year:
January 3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
January 10: Assassin's Creed II (PS3)
March 10: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
March 12: Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends (PS2)
Hopefully, I'll have the time to finish more games this summer. I'm currently about halfway through Final Fantasy XII, so it will probably be the next game I finish. After that, it'll probably be Dragon Warrior VII or Kingdom Hearts.

Re: Games Beaten : 2011
Tooie is an improvement on all levels in my opinion, but it's a little overwhelming as well because it's an insanely huge game (like DK64). So it's seriously like, way longer than even a lot of RPG's I've played, and I've never gotten all the way to the end of Tooie.alienjesus wrote:Banjo Kazooie was one of my summer games, and I really enjoyed it too. Again, it feels faster paced than other 3D platformers I've played which was nice. There were some rough edges to the game that I hope they polished up for Banjo Tooie, especially losing all of the notes for a level upon dying, and the midair attack which was a pain to aim. I really enjoyed the first 4 levels of the game, then felt like the game got a little rough in the middle, but the last few stages really picked up again, so overall it was a pretty great game I really enjoyed - enough to collect everything, which as an old school rare platformer takes some doing.
But yeah, one thing I liked a lot was that there was a lot more outdoor environments, that includes the overall world map or whatever you want to call it. So the scale of the game just feels way bigger and it really is. The caves of Kazooie (and those kind of area's in DK64) often made me kind of claustrophobic and nauseous or something, no other game on the N64/PS1 does that to me like Mario 64 or whatever, but yeah Kazooie/DK64 make me kind of sick just thinking about them. It's pretty weird.
Re: Games Beaten : 2011
My only problem with Banjo Tooie was all of the backtracking.
Granted, there's a hub and all, so retreading older ground wasn't slow, but there are many levels that you simply can't complete on the first visit. You have to come back later.
I know there are many games that do it, but it really got under my skin with Tooie.

Thoughts on the Game(s)
Okay, I have played this in the Metal Slug Anthology on the Wii, in which is it emulated (They all are other than Metal Slug 6) and man,the game plays so much better in the stand alone version (Which is a port of the game), it really pops and looks great with the PS2 component cables and rarely has slow down, compared to constant slow down every time there are mass of enemies on screen in the Anthology, if you are a fan of the Metal Slug and are playing them via the emulated anthology, I highly suggest trying to find the stand alone ports. Also I did not feel the slide added in Metal Slug 5 really added too much to the game play, but that could just be me.

Just finished Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, it's definetely a great game, the plot is fantastic, the graphics are great, the soundtrack is good and the "therapy" gimmick works extremely well. I definetely recommend it BUT it's not better than SH1.

Interesting. I didn't realize that the standalone release was different versions than on the Anthology.emwearz wrote: Okay, I have played this in the Metal Slug Anthology on the Wii, in which is it emulated (They all are other than Metal Slug 6) and man,the game plays so much better in the stand alone version (Which is a port of the game), it really pops and looks great with the PS2 component cables and rarely has slow down, compared to constant slow down every time there are mass of enemies on screen in the Anthology, if you are a fan of the Metal Slug and are playing them via the emulated anthology, I highly suggest trying to find the stand alone ports. I get contradicting information about Metal Slug 6 in Anthology, some say they are all emulated but 6 some say they are all emulated.noiseredux wrote:Interesting. I can differently say you can notice the difference between Metal Slug 5 standalone and Metal Slug 5 Anthology, I hope to get my hands on all the PS2 Ports (Metal Slug 3, 4, 5) there is also Metal Slug 6 but I am not sure if it was released on the PS2 outside of Japan).
Re: Games Beaten : 2011
Terranigma (SNES)
Silent Hill (Playstation)
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast)
Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (Gamecube)
Keio Flying Squadron (Sega CD)
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
Aero Fighters (SNES)
When I read the Shmups 101 article, I got curious. I'd already played Keio Flying Squadron, which is not a very serious game, but I enjoyed it a lot. So I started playing some other shmups, some difficult, some managable, some unbeatable. I would rank Aero Fighters in the last category, just to brag. It took me a long time and a lot of nerves to get that far.

Plenty of games beaten, but just beat Duke Nukem Forever. I hope the endings get better with higher difficulties...
