Earlier this year my fiance and I put 20 or so co-op hours into the GOTY edition of the first Borderlands. We both found the game to be incredibly bland and repetitive during that time. When we realized we were only a 1/5th of the way through at 20 hours, we decided enough was enough and moved on. Now it's possible the back half of the game is much more exciting than the front half. But you can only kill so many endless clones of bandits and mutant dogs in the same boring desert before you won't care anymore. The DLC might be a bag of laughs, I don't know, didn't try it. But if you're into grinding a slow loot feed, you might enjoy the experience. I think that's who the game's really made for; loot grinders.Luke wrote:You guys seem to like the game, so I'm pretty excited about trying the first one out.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I plan on playing single player campaign and nothing else. Hope to God single player campaign isn't terrible as I have no interest in online play.
That ruined the Left 4 Dead series for me as it was nothing but boring. There really isn't even a true campaign for l4d.
I have seven days to try 'em out and can always return them.
On a side note, my local GameStop is located next to a cigar shop, which I also frequent. Something is up as for the first time my GameStop stinks of smoke. You can walk in, turnaround, walk out, and you will still go home smelling heavily of smoke.
It's not cool.
Getting a suit dry cleaned isn't expensive, but it also isn't cheap. One of my suits smells like cigar smoke now just because I made a five minute transaction at a gamestop. It's not about the money to get the suit dry cleaned, but the time involved and wasted to get it cleaned. And there is a Five Guys burger joint that is also next to the cigar store and it doesn't have the same issue of stink.
I'm all for smelling of cigar smoke if I'm smoking a cigar of my choice, but this is nuts. I'm friends with the manager so I don't want to report this to corporate, but...c'mon. Smoke and video games aren't a good pair.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I didn't care for BL in single player, but I did enjoy BL2 solo. That said, I still preferred them in multiplayer.
BUT, it's not like L4D where multiplayer feels almost mandatory. I can't really imagine playing L4D w/o having friends yelling in a panic because "noise, why did you press that button on the stage before we were ready?" L4D is seriously one of my absolute favorite co-op experiences ever.
Also, broken record yes, but Tiny Tina's DLC is one of the greatest things ever. Ever.

Borderlands single player and online are basically the same thing. The experience is the same other than a buddy playing with you. It's not like say, COD where there's a campaign then a multiplayer suite.
I liked both games. The sequel was more colorful and I explored more in that one, but it's more of the same pretty much. Your impression of the first one will pretty much determine how far you go. I didn't finish the second one and couldn't be bothered with the Pre-Sequel due to the lack of innovation. Had a really fun time overall though. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned DLC was the only one I played and I thought it was really well worth it.
At the end of the day you have to enjoy looting and spending time standing still comparing this gun to that one. The game's aesthetics do help too though. It's a pretty funny game, at least as far as games go.

No, no, it's meaningless because it's a name-drop without context or connection it to my arguments not because I don't know who he is, which I do.pepharytheworm wrote:It's only meaningless if you don't know who he is.
It's not a matter of "word quotas", it's a matter of respecting the person you are talking to by engaging them beyond a mere "Random name, you are wrong" post, c'mon :/
It's a sensible explanation, not an excuse. The game represents a fictional counterpart of Poland, which is indeed a very homogenous and historically opprossed country. If someone asked why your game lacks diversity and your answer is we aren't all American, we are a very white area, and we are an oppressed people, that comes off more like an excuse.
Those things you mention could have had an impact in the racial makeup of Poland, but historical facts show that the country remained overwhelmingly "white". For example, the Mongol invasions produced no significant Mongol demographic:pepharytheworm wrote:Nevermind the fact that during the 10th to 17th century many people non-white were in contact with Poland. That Poland fought wars with countries that were mostly non-white. That trade was being done. That they bought non-white slaves. That alot of styles and even food were inspired by non-white foreign elements.
Really, The Witcher is as diverse as it ought to be as a fictional counterpart of Poland.Wikipedia wrote:An estimate for 1493 gives the combined population of Poland and Lithuania at 7.5 million, breaking them down by ethnicity at
3.25 million Poles
3.75 million Ruthenians
0.5 million Lithuanians[1]

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Thanks for the input dudes! Pretty revved up to play the BL series and learn what all the buzz is about. The checkout gal at GS said that BL2 has a mission that is based on the movie TOP GUN, so I was sold.
I really need to find another copy of XIII. Loved that game from start to finish, but my PC discs look like a hamster took break dancing lessons on them. Any suggestion on a console version, or are they all the same run of the mill?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
BL2's writing is brilliant. And like I said, Tiny Tina's stands out as a high point.
Pre-Sequel is actually the entry I spent the most time w/ solo. I never got around to beating it, but had a lot of fun. The intention was always to beat that one in multiplayer as well though.

Do you mean the first person shooter with David Duchovny's voice acting?Luke wrote:I really need to find another copy of XIII. And I have yet to play Pre-Sequel. It's on the list of upcoming multiplayer games with the guys I play with, but I'm apparently the only one who was able to hold off on playing it solo.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Apparently there will be a Dark Souls III in 2016:

I thought Bloodborne was the successor to this series, as Dark Souls was the successor to Demon's Souls. But hey the more's the merrier I guess?
