A little penicillin never hurt anybody.

Or a little LSD precursor, if it's rye bread we're talking.

It wasn't rye this time, but I'm a little averse to St. Anthony's Fire being on today's menu as well.

Sorry to disappoint everyone with my post.

When I was a kid and watching the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie there was one joke I just completely didn't get. They get back to their home where Danny was crashing and see that there was leftover pizza. Donnie checks it out first and says "Tell me, do you like penicillin on your pizza?"

Yeah, then they gave it a proper goodbye with the salute and all.

They certainly did. That movie is still great.

Speaking of:

Made pizza from scratch last night (scratch is actually delicious) and it was a thin crust with a tomato based sauce topped with mozzarella, olives, and about four anchovie slices. My wife thought it was my best yet.

"And I mean no anchovies. If you but anchovies on my pizza..."

"Michelangelo!"

"Whoops!"

But anchovies are awesome. Why they get a bad rep has to be because people don't cook 'em.

I've never had one; they've always creeped me out (I think it's just the societal "bad rep", as you say). What do you think would be the best introduction to anchovies? Just eatin' 'em on a pizza?

Pasta Puttanesca.

Anchovies are basically salt. They do have the flavor of fish when you eat them out of a can, but when cooked they lose almost all of that flavor and simply add a salty flavor to foods.

There is also anchovie paste that comes in a tube and looks like a brown toothpaste, which looks disgusting, but is used by professional chefs everyday.

If you don't mind a bit of fish flavor try this:

Toast white bread, cut into quarters. Top with mayo, a slice of tomato, and a rolled anchovie with caper. It tastes like a mini but powerful blt (minus the l).

But yeah, try pasta puttenesca.

The things don't really cook, they melt.

They are one of the many things that people love but if you tell them it's in their meal, they object to it even if they were just making yummy noises (that's a Young Frankenstein ref).

I cooked for thousands of people, and truth be told, food allergies aside, if someone says "I don't like X" but "X" is in something that tastes amazing, add X anyway. I've never had someone say "I told you I don't like onions, but I think there are onions in this!".

It's the same philosophy in business that as soon as you open your mouth you are open to skepticism. Don't tell 'em "This is a bone marrow based gravy with onions", just let the proof be in the pudding...er gravy.

"Online Luke" runs his mouth a lot, because it's a release of stress. "Business Luke" does what he is told, has a coke and a smile and shuts up (that is until I have proven by numbers I know what to do. Then I tell my boss what I need to be doing).

Huh?

Got off the track there.

Pasta Puttanesca. Delicious. Say you need a recipe and you got it.
