The closest thing Far Cry has to a true sequel is Crysis, which was made by the same team and has a decently similar feel. At least, it feels far more like Far Cry than Far Cry 2 did. Same tropical island setting too.

@Ack, Blood and Blood II were worked on by different teams at Monolith, which may have contributed to the loss of personality. Craig Hubbard (who went on to make NOLF, NOLF2, and FEAR) was heavily involved in Blood and I'm betting that he had something to do with what made it a fun game.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
That's a whole lotta FPS there on GOG, good to know there's still a lot to check out. Thanks for taking the time on that Ack. Now that I know about them, I'll have to watch for sales. I actually have some of those just from other sources, like the original 3 floppy disks of Blake Stone. Oh, and I already grabbed Deus Ex GOTY back in their Time Machine sale -- you know me and that game. I also play UT2004 regularly, but need to check out the originals. I also need to get Serious Sam's Second Encounter, I made it about halfway a while back.
I'm a big Tom Clancy game fan. I've played them all on the Gamecube, but I also scored a near-new Rainbow Six Vegas for the PC at around $6 on eBay today.

Then the aliens come in and completely ruin the game.BoringSupreez wrote:The closest thing Far Cry has to a true sequel is Crysis, which was made by the same team and has a decently similar feel. At least, it feels far more like Far Cry than Far Cry 2 did. Same tropical island setting too.
Oh kind of like the mutants in Far Cry.
Luckily the other devs didn't take this crap into Far Cry 2 or 3.

Think I could have done without a few of the trippy sequences in 3 as well. Boss battles pissed me off QTE battles felt like such a lazy ass way to go.Xeogred wrote:Then the aliens come in and completely ruin the game.BoringSupreez wrote:The closest thing Far Cry has to a true sequel is Crysis, which was made by the same team and has a decently similar feel. I just wanted to add that Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death is on sale on GOG right now for $1.99 if you're interested, Exed.

EDIT: Snapped that up, but I had no idea they had the DICE pinball games on GOG!!!! Also on sale this weekend!!!!!! Bought them too!
Yup! It's bad enough the Mercenary Camp level is confusing as all get out, but then once you enter the buildings there -- trigens. freaking TRIGENS.Xeogred wrote:Then the aliens come in and completely ruin the game.BoringSupreez wrote:The closest thing Far Cry has to a true sequel is Crysis, which was made by the same team and has a decently similar feel. Updates -
Ghost Recon 2 (GC) - The second to last mission. Thank goodness for airstrikes, but you're by yourself and it's super difficult to avoid fire near the train on the bridge. I'll have this one completed next week.
Rainbow Six Vegas (PC) - So happy my new computer can handle this one easily. It's the first game I'm playing that uses Unreal Engine 3, and everything looks great. I like the call back to RS: Lockdown at the end of the first mission's cutscene, which means that even though you don't play as Ding Chavez this time, he is in fact your superior, replacing John Clark from the previous games. I like the new team commands and the boxes you come across to switch weapons as well as regenerating health, but the long levels need more checkpoints by far. Plus the LOW AMMO message can be a little confusing.
Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death (PC) - I was looking for this one on the Gamecube, but thanks to Ack who helped me get a good deal on it during a GOG sale. The multi-function pistol is a nice touch, and the futuristic graphics look very nice. Combat is a little hit or miss, but being able to arrest individuals instead of just killing them is a nice alternative. I think the vampires are gonna be just as annoying as those Trigens from Far Cry.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Ghost Recon 2's finished, and what do I gotta say to it? Good riddance!
No, seriously. As good as the entire game was, this final mission and the hours and hours I spent replaying it because I wasn't good enough not to get hit more than 5 times brought back shades of MOH: European Assault when I had the same exact situation on THAT game's final mission. I'm standing under the extraction chopper hoping I get an all clear message with the time counting down until the detonation charges explode, all the while I'm being hit 3 more times on a red health meter waiting for the thing to end. But, I did it. It's done! Good game, but done.
Back to Rainbow Six Vegas (amazing graphics so far!) and I'll probably be picking up the GR Advanced Warfighter games for the PC.
