I agree wholeheartedly. Skyrim is not a selling point. The potential that more Bethesda games will come out on the switch is though.

My major draw is that the switch, like with the Wii and Wii u is that it is a catch all for every type of gaming need. It is king of couch co-op, party and social games, as well as tons of more fulfilling and challenging experiences.

I know that they did not show all their cards at the conference and have so much more coming out of the woodwork.

We will see more of fire emblem warriors at the fire emblem direct and also see the phone game which is a big question mark.

Also we saw silly testimonials of developers saying they are excited to work on stuff, but what about those other guys. What is in the works there?

No desire to play Skyrim. Oblivion wrecked the series for me. Witcher 3 on a handheld is an eyeraise for me though.

As much as I hate to admit it, Wiiu will go down as a failure. It has some really awesome games and I know plenty of people who bought it simply for off tv play. Since I preordered the Switch, I started to do a deep dive into the consoles library and have a decent sized list of games that interest me. But that does not help the console in the public's eye. Despite it being financially profitable, the Wiiu is a failure.

For those of you who keep pushing for Nintendo to go software developer only, think about what you are asking. More competition is better than less, even if they are a third pillar. By taking Nintendo out of hardware, who is going to be pushing development forward? Yes yes, Kingmohd, you said Nintendo should have done this eight years ago, back when the Wii and the DS were dominating the sales charts and it was a ridiculous concept (In Japan Mario Kart DS was in the top 25 weekly sales for close to a decade). Nintendo is a wildcard in an industry that desperately needs something to change up the monotony. Since we all like to make predictions, mainline consoles have two, maybe three, more generations until PCs or Smart devices make them irrelevant.

The Switch is a great step forward into bringing console experiences portable. My job has me travel alot, more than it use to. I spend alot of time in cities outlying from my own. Sometimes in hotels, some times driving back and forth. The Wiiu has been awesome for me since all I need is an outlet. The Switch will be even better. Sure my telephone can emulate Gamecube games, and I have an 8bitdo controller for it, but it is not the same. I do not get excited like this for every console, the last one that I was this excited for was the Gamecube.

I haven't played Oblivion yet. (It's on my backlog shelf though). But man, I love Skyrim. So so much. But I also didn't really like Witcher 3, so it's certainly possible that our tastes are opposite when it comes to these kinds of RPG's.

Sorry... off-topic now.

Except no! Wait! ON-TOPIC: Maybe I'm weird, but Portable Skyrim was by far the most exciting announcement I heard about The Switch. Don't get me wrong, the new Zelda looks fine. But it wasn't really surprising either.

Actually I know I'm weird, because most of what could possibly interest me on The Switch is going to be 3rd party stuff. Basically games that I love on PC that would be cool in portable form (Skyrim, Rocket League, XCOM 2, Duelyst...) and would actually give me a reason to want a Switch over the Shield. As I've said before if Nvidia made proper JoyCon things for the Shield rather than that clunky thing I have then I'd have less interest in The Switch. Basically the first party stuff that's been announced so far is stuff I'd probably play if I had access, but I don't have enough interest in them to be proper selling points.

The Bethesda fanbase cannot be underestimated. I've seen people first hand flip out over the possibility of playing Skyrim on the Switch and not speak much else on all the other stuff. It's absurd, but people still think that's the greatest videogame ever created apparently.

In fairness, it's hilarious how many times I've bought dozens of Capcom games several times over with new ports and collections.

I loved Oblivion, but couldn't get into Skyrim the times I've tried. I recently got the updated one for XB1 so I'll give it a go again.

Skyrim is one of those games I just never uninstall because I know if someone mentions it then I'll have to go play it for a couple of hours.

What grabbed you those most? I know this is one of those games, where if I find something I like and dig into that, the game will consume me, just the opening of that game is so boring.

Can't comment one way or the other, believe it or not I've never touched an Elder Scrolls game or anything much like that stuff really ever since the rollover into the 2000s. The rest though fastbilly said (aside from travel I don't do) the rest hits home with me other than the raging excitement. I'm pleased, which at this point feels like a stretch but knowing more can't hurt.

It is true though Skyrim does get puffed up a lot and Bethesda followers are quite rabid, good fit for them gobbling up the iD software brands too if you think about it. If Skyrim on there helps move another milion units over time, good on both the developer and Nintendo.

Maybe it's something to look into? I just never can find the time to get into something so freaking large and deep it just seems like a put off as I never know going in if I can find personal value in it. Might be something I should research more as I've ignored the franchise. That said though what good would it do having on there for me vs my laptop?

:) Nintendo is doing "free games" with their paid online service Polygon just wrote an article about it. Only catch is it's a one month rental  .

That was already known from the start.

Nintendo kinda f'd up the announcement of a paid subscription, but hopefully we finally get a 'real' 21st century type of online service (with us finally actually owning the games we download, tied to our accounts). Also, we have no idea how much they're going to charge and it'll be free for the first few months, so I'm quietly not really giving a shit. I currently pay for PS+ literally only to play online, I hardly ever bother with the free games. Half the time I can't even be arsed to 'download' them or add to my basket just to add them to my library.
