Well, going by your criteria, Burningdoom's choices are pretty much all wrong except for Flair. That's why I said we need to clarify what criteria we're using. Austin, Hogan and Rock never had that much wrestling ability. By your criteria, I'd rate Chris Jericho over all three of those guysBootaaay wrote:Since when has "recognition by the general public" ever been an accurate method of discerning the "best ever" wrestler? Unless you want to get into a tedious discussion about who was the bigger draw to wrestling, "best ever wrestler" should be decided by a combination of factors, namely wrestling ability, charisma, character and promo skills.
Flair > Hogan.

So would I, Jericoho's pretty much got it all, but if we're looking at a combination of factors like in-ring ability, charisma, promo work, etc then there's definitely a case to be made for guys like Rocky & Savage, although neither would figure in a list of who I'd consider purely the best technical wrestlers.

Agree with all that's been said, I know that nobody in the UK really knows of the NWA. They think it's a rap group. And if you mention Giant Haystacks or Big Daddy to anyone over 45, they'll know them as they were household names in the 70s. It's all relative.
These are all absolute legends of the sport (entertainment, ffs Vince). But who are the wrestlers you rate highly but find others don't? Personally, I'm a big fan of Booker T and am praying for a DVD set. The Harlem Heat, his WCW Championship reigns, his wrestling school etc. I enjoyed him in WWE too, minus the appalling King Booker stuff.
Another would be Scott Steiner. Probably going to catch a lot of heat for this, but there's something about his character I fucking love! Technically he should go down as a great what with his tag team history and then complete reinvention as a solo star, incredible physique, amateur background, and a total livewire on the mic. I think it's as he is very hit and miss that he gets overlooked. He has been clumsy in the ring too, especially on the big stage (I remember him completely dominating Triple H in their feud, but he never won the title, and the audience never really connected with him). I just love him for the fact he was utterly bonkers really

Austin? You're living in pro wrestling ignorance. Austin was incredible before his injuries in the mid-90s forced him to change his style to what morphed into the "Stone Cold" character. Watch some of his early 90s stuff. He was in the same league as Jericho. I'm not sure about The Rock, but check out some of Hogan's early stuff. Especially his matches with Antonio Inoki. He DID have a lot more wrestling ability than you think. Hogan deserved his spot.Gamerforlife wrote:Austin, Hogan and Rock never had that much wrestling ability. Are any of these four the greatest ever, as in put on the best matches? Nope. Guys like Misawa, Dynamite, Sayama, Benoit, Bret, HBK and others are all probably better. Are they arguably the four top ever overall, including fame and charisma? Yup. There are others, but those are four strong contenders.

Yeah, I read that too. Very cool. Punk is very much a role model even though he doesn't try to be.Rurouni_Fencer wrote:Found this snip about CM Punk's appearance on Raw last night.. Very Awesome!
Well, Jericho's promo is everything I expected. I've had an idea in my head how this feud would play out months before he came back and it's happening exactly like I thought. Jericho's been setting this up loooong before he came back. Just go look at interviews he's done. I'm pumped for Punk/Jericho at Mania!
In other news, what the hell Miz!?
"During the Six-Pack Challenge on Monday's RAW, R-Truth attempted a slingshot somersault onto The Miz but his fall was not absorbed due to the former WWE Champion being out-of-position. R-Truth ended up falling back-first onto the floor, causing his head to whip back. At that point, the referee decided R-Truth was no longer able to compete and personnel assisted him to the locker room area.
WWE.com has confirmed that R-Truth avoided serious injury after suffering the fall. PWInsider.com reports that the basic outline of the match remained the same but adjustments were made from what was initially planned.
The Miz is being blamed for the errant spot. There was a ton of heat on him from company officials, including Triple H, backstage after the show. The WWE Executive Vice President of Talent "loudly disciplined" The Miz in front of wrestlers as soon as he returned to the back."

The ROCK was just on a live sportscenter on espn and dropped "Bullshit".
The entire interview was hilarious, including Dwayne accusing the reporter of been drinking booze, and thumb wrestling.

"As noted before, WWE Champion CM Punk confirmed his new WWE DVD to come out later this year. Punk spoke about the DVD on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast and said he's already upset a lot of people in regards to decisions he has made about the DVD.
WWEDVDNews reports that Punk has a lot of input on the DVD that will include matches and a documentary style feature similar to recent Randy Orton and John Cena DVD's. Punk picked the matches for the DVD and which stars were interviewed for the documentary.
Punk talked about watching recent DVD sets on Randy Orton and Chris Jericho, then sending a long e-mail to WWE employees about what he wants for his DVD. Punk said he didn't like the usual narrators that can be heard in the backgrounds and the choice of music on WWE's DVD's. Punk is refusing to have "crappy bands like Switchfoot" on his DVD and is planning on using music from bands he is a fan of and friends with.
The set will be out on DVD and Blu-ray later this year."

Blu-ray is a must grab. Love the extras they'll cram in.
