It's Metal Man. Yes, for whatever reason, he is weak to his own weapon.

I never found it overpowered against the bosses. The main reason I feel it is "easy mode" is that it is stronger than the regular blaster, works against almost everything, and can be shot in any direction, yet consumes almost no energy.
