Gamestop Gamecube 60% Off Finds

I'll post a more in depth review at a later date in my Wii - Gamecube Thread

Picked up a few games during the one day sale. Unfortunately The Gamecube 60% off sale is over. Gamecube support went away on new Wii consoles, expect more sales for Gamecube games and maybe clearance on all the White Wii/GC Gamestop Pelican controllers.

It looks like Gamestop is doing a different sale per day thru the holidays. I posted the Gamestop Weekly Sales Calendar in a separate Thread, I'll try to update the OP over there every week.

Okay now to the Meat and Potatoes, the stuff I snagged also continued in a second Reply. :D

Gamecube Chaos Field - $2.24
Okay a crappy SHMUP, but also an uncommon find. I also admit to buying Space Raiders. Chaos Field is just one boss after another of Bullet Hell will you die already you bastard! At least there are unlimited continues, this game deserves an Action Replay invincibility code.

Gamecube Ikaruga - $8.99
This is more like it! The game I ran out the door when I found out about the 60% off sale. I was determined to find a CIB, bought a pristine Ikaruga disc in a generic case at one Gamestop and then went to another to make it complete. Only missing the unique Ikaruga themed Nintendo Power Subscription flyer. The themed flyers are in most the Gamecube games. I kept the generic case since it is a good PS2 case with a memory card holder.

I really don't care too much for SHMUPS, but love this one. I played Ikaruga on the Dreamcast already, had to get the Gamecube version. The change color of the ship is so much better a concept then Chaos Field change to aggressive world.

Very similar to the DC version and no I AM NOT LAYING MY HD CRT ON ITS SIDE.

Gamecube Zelda Twilight Princess - $13.49
o.pwuaioc wrote:If only I didn't have to work today, I could have gone down there and finally bought Twilight Princess for cheap. This blows.

With apologies to o.pwuaioc, I actually was undecided to buy this game. I mean I already have Wii Twilight Princess and Gamecube Wind Waker. The hook holding me back was the hookshot aim in Wind Waker. I just know Wii Princess would have a tighter Hookshot aim control with a Remote. But then there are all the negatives about arm waving sword play and a mirror world.

I have yet to try my Wii version since I'm still playing Wind Waker delayed by Pikmin, Cubivore, Monkeyball, reading this Forum, buying and cleaning stickers off game cases blah blah excuses blah blah. At least I did test boot up all the games and I am impressed with the opening shots in GC Zelda Princess! This hits me with a reminder of ICO and Shadow Colossus.

A good investment, I now own both the left and the right mirrors!

More Gamestop Finds

Picked up some more goodies, I'm on a spending frenzy!

Wii Mercury Meltdown Revolution - $2.69
The MonkeyBall Thread made me go back and try the PS2 Mercury Meltdown again. I discovered how much better Mercury is compared to the ever so frustrating PS2 MonkeyBall. PS2 Mercury Meltdown would not with my Digital Arcade Twinstick. I knew the Wii version is on the cheap and was curious if it would work in the Twinstick Arcade mode with a Mayflash adapter. I am happy to post it does, another Wii game that is Twinstick heaven. 8)

Anyone who owns a Wii just has got to get the PSX Mayflash Adapter!

Mercury can be played with the Remote, Classic and also a PSX Arcade Twin Stick!

Gamecube Starfox Assault - $3.14
Blah Ha Ha Ha! See the blank Gamestop tag on the Starfox Assault case? The game was tagged as Starfox Adventure, a lower price! The employee placed a blank tag over the wrong price tag, honored their mistake and charged me 60% off the Adventure price, not the more expensive Assault price. 8)

I already own Starfox "Dino Planet" Adventure, bought for the novelty. Finally can get back to the flying action with Assault that I miss from the N64 version. On top of that the price! This was a very sweet deal, a $12.99 game for only $3.14!

Gamecube Super Monkeyball - $5.39
Gamecube Super Monkeyball 2 - $4.49

Oh crap, I bought these the day after the sale. Ah well, I got a killer deal on Starfox so this is not as painful a purchase. I mentioned earlier of how frustrating Monkeyball is to play. Reading other posts and reviews hinted that the Gamecube versions have a tighter control. I'll give these a go later and update the MonkeyBall Thread with a comparison with the PS2 version. :?

killer instinct
final fight 2
mortal kombat 1 and 2
donkey kong country
rival turf?
lion king
george forman
nhl stanly cup
porky pig
tecmo super bowl
super off road
and a few other sports games. It all came up to 80.00. The sad thing is the guy put on the listing that he had secret of mana and when I got home nothing. I called him on it and he say's he can't find it. SOL on my part but I think 80.00 is a good price to get back on the snes. Sad thing is I was getting this for my brother for christmas but after cleaning it and playing the games.... He's getting a gift card at gamestop lol

Not bad at all. Not a super deal, but you weren't ripped off. A lot depends on condition as well... the secret of mana would have set it up even better unfortunately

I just checked on videogamepricecharts and most of the games came up to 198.28. So I think it's a very good deal.

CRT, it's Wind Waker. Waker. Not Walker. And two words. Sorry if it looks like I'm calling you out on it, but I don't think you're the only person that does this.

I'll buy it from ya. $13.49 + shipping is still worth it to me. :)

Ran back to Kmart with a friend so he could pick up some things and I ended up finding Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol. 1 for PS2 brand new for $4.25 total.

You did alright, you'll basically make your initial investment back on the games and the system will be your profit.

Wow! You really are committed to Together Retro. Have fun!

Great finds everyone.

I started doing yard sale this year. Didn't find much, but I got nice video game related stuff a couple of times. Here's my best find. It's nothing amazing, but I'm really happy about it.

Sega Master System
2 "normal" controllers
1 control stick
2 light phaser (one of them not pictured and not working)

Games :
Ghost House
After Burner
Great Football
Shooting Gallery
Gangster Town
Rescue Mission
Marksman Shooting & Trap Shooting
Zillion II :The Tri Formation
Space Harrier
Double Dragon
Rambo III

Everything for 10$. Also, all games have their manual.

Now I have a question. Two of those games have some pins missing (see picture below): Rambo III and Double Dragon. Normally, I would think they are broken, but the weird thing is they are missing exactly the same pins. So I'm wondering if it is possible they were made that way? The first time I tried one of the two, I got a black screen with a "software error" message. I tried them later and now they seem to be working. If they are broken, is it dangerous to play them?

Thanks
